I have been here for a very short time, really doing research on the car I just bought. Actually I have been courting this car since before Christmas. But, today the truck arrived with the car on the trailer, her she is... it is a barn find pretty much 100% original... a survivor. Flat head powered 3 on the tree. The paint is thin and the gl*** is delaminating but it is all there and the body is rock solid, no rust to speak of no holes anywhere, the floors are solid. I am so happy today, i'm like a five year old on Christmas...

WOW! I'm totally jealous, good for you.... what are your plans? I'm hoping not much, that thing only needs a slight al***ude adjustment. They're only original once!

A dropped axle and reversed eye springs and you have a perfect example of a '40 Standard sedan!

Oh...and congrats! A '40 Standard sedan is on my wish list.

That's a very nice 40 standard with Deluxe headlight rims. HRP, did you keep count of how many 40 Fords there were at the NSRA show in Knoxville?

The best time in my life is when I found a 30's Ford in Tennessee and towed it home. All in one day. Was driving on adrenaline. Great old ford you have there!!

thanks for all the kind words, and let me say I have asked a lot of questions here and have foundd this place a wealth of knowledge. HRP you ever get to connecticut I want to have a beer with you. ok back to the car... the '40 is one owner away from the original family that bought it new, I got it from the guy who bought it from the original owner back in 2000. The car was restore in the seventies and has always been stored and with 39k on the clock not driven much.
So fast forward to recent hisory, I found the car thru a friend of mind who's nephew had it is a garage under a pile of "collectibles" the garage is huge, I am sworn to secrecy as to what other muscle cars are in there (beep-beep). So I have been scrounging since i saw it and posting here for advice and how to...
My plan goes something like this; the distributor is out, having been freshly rebuilt and not reinstalled, the gas in the tank is some nasty, so that will need a flushing. Once the distributor is back in place and the fuel is fresh, I want to get her started and then I will go thru the brakes, the hand brake works fine I know better that to mash the brake pedal just yet as I am pushing it around and do not want ot have a cylinder lock up. from 10k feet here is the plan get the front low, 4" drop and reverse spring IF I can do that without splitting the wishbone, can I? the wheels are going, 235/75-15 our back the TAs or the wide whites still up in the air on that, and 165/85-16s up front. sombody beaty me to the tube shocks in the front they look good, out back they are pretty laid down. I do not know what I think of that arrangment. out back I want to drop it an inch or so maybe a reverse Posie. I want to swap out the front brakes for a '53-'56 f1 set up and I am going to try to mount tha same in the rear. Saw a entry here I book marked. I am thinking either red smoothies with 40 hubcaps or maybe an orange rim, offset the blue of the car. I have to replace the current gl*** less tha wind screen due to delamination :(. the interior needs a good cleaning, smells like an old car, I like that smell better than new car smell. The other option I want is a dual mastercylinder, I need to figure that out, open to suggestions. Some where along the line i want to go to 12vDC. I would like to have an aluminum intake with two carbs and a pair of aluminum heads, I have to have dual exashts and Smittys mufflers. did I miss anything, I know she needs paint but that will be later on. I need to do all the safety, window gl***, brakes, etc.

One question I have is should I add a second tail light?

No, you don't have to split the bones.

Ch***is Engineering makes an adapter to bolt a mustang MC to you stock 40 pedals.

Pleeeease don't put radials on that ol girl. 750 16s in the rear and 550 16s in the front white or black wall, either would look good.

And NO to the second tail light, some will disagree, but in my opinion it would be shame to cut that virgin fender.

You are very lucky indeed to find that type of barn find.

Persistence pays off when you are looking for a car.

I am not sure I would do anything to it other then a wax job and driving it.

    Best of luck Jimbo

I would add the second tail light for two reasons, 1) it looks better and 2) 40 tail lights are hard to see with two lights in the daylight when stopping but better than one, I believe it is a safety issue. I replaced my blue dot tail lights with 40 ford LED lights and they have good visibility in bright sun light. I had too many close calls with the std lights.
