Love the car - and anxiously waiting for pics of how you cover the top. I'm pretty sure I can make make the top, but how to fit the cover to it baffles me...
I'm flattered Koz, thank you. Yep, Fawn would be perfect but alas its not our decision to make. Even if we are right! Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
I don't do uphoulstery work but the shop I have do it will let me shot some pics. Henry is waiting to get some cash together to get the top done which is why we painted the aluminum in the interum in addition to getting an idea of how the car will look when it is covered. Essentually what they do is cover the entire top with 5/16" closed cell foam, the same material used under factory "Carson tops". The Hartz cloth is then stiched just like a regular rag and glued in place. I have them add a 1" tail along the bottom where the body roll is and add snaps about every 4". This way the top stays nice and leakproof yet can be easily removed. Unfortunatly the guy who has been doing my stuff for years is retiring and I believe we are going to use a new shop on this roof. Whatever you do, don't let the trimmer talk you into using vyinl for the roof. The regular cloth looks way better. I had one where the Owner had the top wrapped in vinyl and it looked like a '73 Chevelle, (My idea of the worlds ugliest car!).
Koz Thanks for all the detail shots and info on how you are putting the car together. I have the rough makings of a 28 sports coupe that is a maybe someday car with one of my boys, and will bookmark this thread for motorvation and ideas. The shots you have posted on the roof detail are great, and I'm sure will be of use to many of us "one day" it'll get done type of guys. Thanks again, Michael
All you gott do is get started. Everything just falls in place from there. Post some pics of what you have. This Forum is great for inspiration. You might want to check out my old '28/'29 Sporty in this thread..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=641469&highlight=koz+sport+coupe
Thank you my brother. If I get to Detriot this month, I'm not sure if I can get away from the shop, I'll give you a shout.
I just somehow spent 6 hrs. repairing this origional duece radiator that somebody chopped 4". It would probably have been easier to stop all the leaks on the Titanic! Filled and drained six times! This sucker is fighting me tooth and claw on the last day here.
Pics be up soon! The car is currently in for Pa. titling and will be cleaned up and hitting the streets later this week. The 283 is purring nicely and I don't anticipate any problems with the DOT. We are having just a bit of abuse with the trans. I'm hoping it's just some minor crap to deal with. It will be going into the uphlostery shop soon after. Thanks to all of you for watching this build. Check out Kess's pickup ...... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8233534#post8233534 Next build in the shop!
I Think i would love that build, and the fact you do a little bug on the side makes me want to know more, but i cant see shit. But the text Sound like you are doing nice stuff!!
We'll get some good pics up soon. I had a computer malfunction and lost tons of pics in a bunch of threads.
A couple pics from the last day here. I'm having a hell of a time with the new Photobucket and haven't been posting much lately. Not the most flattering pics of the car. It looks way better in person!
looking good koz! glad to see it finally hitting the streets. after sitting in it in your shop i'm still amazed at how much leg room there is in it. so now that's it's done will we be seeing fryguy's buick next?
Really looks good Koz & I'm sure it runs good also. Nice headlights heh heh---really like the hood---someday,I might have to have you make me one!!--Hood,that is--not whole car
Fryguys Buick is coming in next. I just finished up Twistedridez '30 Pickup chassis with an 8ba as I need all the space I can get for the Queen Mary, (Buick). I have it in the building down the street and pop back and forth for the moment. I can't wait to get my hands on it. We're also progressing nicely on Kess's pickup that is going to be a stunner. That one may well end up being the coolest thing to come out of the shop in some time. Gary, Unfortunately the hood isn't latched in the pics. It fits up quite nicely, and with the stretch it take on a decidedly "Deuce" flavor. By the way, That's the infamous Rosie with the car, my sweetie! Damn, I have the best job in the world.
Nice to see you on here! You know how to get me. New phones in the shop next week so I'll be posting up the new lines in my HAMB-O-Dex as well.
