I need some help on my 53 with a 230 flathead 6. I did a carb rebuild on the stromberg but cobbled it together as we couldn't find the correct rebuild kit ( we as in me and Roberts motors). What My question is I'd like to switch to kit that Langdon over at stovebolt has for the adapter and weber carb. I know he specializes in Chevys but does anyone know if this will work on the dodge? It looks like it will I'm just unsure about the throttle linkage.

Cannot help with info on the Weber; but correct rebuilding kits for the Stromberg are readily available via mail order.

    Wouldn't a '53 use a Carter B & B ? Mine did. Easy carb to rebuild.

I've searched everywhere, so did the nice guy at Roberts that everyone recommended for the old dodge parts. The kit everyone has wont work with mine. It's a stromberg BXVES-3. Really I'm just looking to find a new carb and get rid of this thing. I've had nothing but problems. Is the carter a single barrel I'm assuming?

I owned a 230. It was in y 41. I did business with Tom. I would not hesitate to use him or recommend him.

I bought his mini HEI, he was right there every question I had. He is a fountain of knowledge as he was an engineer at GM on the Stovebolt engines. That being said he was friends with many Mopar and Ford engineers as well, and still is.

He is top notch. He is in a group of only a few, If he says it will work. It will work.

I want to also add, read under his "TECH TIPS" heading. You will see it clear he is a fountain of Knowledge on everything including, Buicks straight 8s....AN incredible mind.

Didn't the Ford Pinto use a Weber progressive linkage 2 BBl carb?

There are 4 different versions of the BXVES-3; they take different kits. ALL of the kits are readily available. You need the STAMPED identification number on the top cover. It will be either a 3-something or a 4-something. The most common seems to be a 3-95. There will probably be an engineering change letter after the number. We often see the 3-95G.

The BXVES-3 carb has the electrical solenoid to control the transmission. Some of the Carters have a similar solenoid; but not all.

I am not a transmission guy. I do not know if the transmission would shift if an aftermarket carb were used. But really not necessary; as kits for all of the BXVES-3's are available. Just DO NOT break the bakelite solenoid, as they are made out of verypriceum!

And you may disagree, as you are having issues; but the Stromberg B-series (opinion) were and are some of the finest single barrel carbs ever produced at any time, any price, or any place.

A carter YF should be a direct replacement. My IH had one, my buddy's 50 dodge has one. They work great. Modifying linkage should be no big deal if that's what is required.

The Weber carb (32/36) works great on a Mopar flathead. Solves a lot of old carb problems.

What transmission does your car have??? If you have the Semi auto, the carb has a antistall dashpot on it. If you have a three speed, it is not as much of a concern.

It's the 3 speed with the fluid coupling.
