They're an hour + away. I've never bought anything from them, only because I never think of them. Perhaps I should give 'em a try.

Their only a mile down the street from me, you could stop in and say "hi" if you made the drive west Brian. And yes, I have still bought plenty from Speedway and never been disappointed.

I've been buying from Speedway since I was in High School. I have always had great success with their products. Other's I rely on: Yogi's and Summit.

I SHOULD do that, even if I don't go to Lane! You know a Cayo truck camper would look pretty good in my dually...

Speedway got to be big and successful because of their customer service. I've always had good luck with them for the last 30 years.

Our club just toured the Speedway Museum last weekend. I had'nt been there since 1996 Americruse. All I can say is WOW, if you ever get the opportunity take advantage of the tour.

Three floors of everything from pedal cars to indy cars. My favorites were the dirt cars, the Famaous 4X maxwell that Jan Opperman drove and Speedy Bill's old dirt modified. There has to be over 500 different flathead intakes hanging on the walls. Almost every old engine ever built and inavations made to them.

I am also a long time customer and have never had a problem, good people!

WOW......... I think this is the FIRST Speedway Moters lovefest I have ever seen on the HAMB.
I have had no problems with the few parts I have got from them.

  8. Ive had a few things Ive had to return to Speedway over the years, but they were right on top of it. A few items when havig ordered tens of thousands of dollars from them over the years is better than any other company Ive dealt with.

Very refreshing to see a thread that is complementary to anyone, usually it is the opposite. I haven't purchased anything from Speedway since the late seventies, but never had a problem.

I've used Speedway many times and have been happy with all my purchases.
Most prices are good to average, except many " garage sale " items tend to be pricey as per descriptions of items in my opinion. Overall, I have been satisfied with their prices, service and selection. Will use them again.

If you saw that recent segment on Stacy David's Gearz show, Speedway ain't no small operation any more !:eek: My God, that place is huge and super automated to get the stuff pulled and out the door quickly. I would love to go there, if for no other reason than to visit some of my money I have sent them for the past 30 years. :D

I love speedway, summit and jegs. you order a part it ships right away, you get tracking info right away with out begging for it. if you need to return something they make it easy for you. I dont under stand the constant bashing, every one sells offshore parts some places just try to hide the fact.

I use Speedway [ Nebraska based ]. Yogi's and Rosy's Raceland [ Iowa based ] and I avoid anything west coast based . I try to keep my money in the midwest and past experience with the left coast has not been good.

I use speedway, but only when I absolutely have to. Their track record of taking a design and having it remanufactured in China really disturbs me. I've actually gotta case study half written about it and will eventually finish it...

Here's the basics of what happens:

Small American company designs and produces a product. Speedway buys it wholesale for a while until they see a good demand for it and the potential to have it made considerably cheaper in china. They stop buying wholesale from the small American company and produce their own Chinese version.

I've got two or three real world examples lined up. Including one where Speedway even stole the instructions from an a American competitor... And the packaging design from another.

I've contacted speedway. Of course, they won't talk to me about it.

In any case, speedway is necessary in many ways... And I use them when I have too... But don't ever confuse them for the good guys.

Here's a quick example of what I'm talking about. Hot Rod Works is an American company with an all American made catalog. Speedway used to sell HRW's open drive conversions, but once they saw positive demand for the product they decided to have the product made in China instead.

I've gotta ton of product shots comparing the kit and the Chinese made unit is obviously a direct copy, but here's one shot just for illustration:

    speedway1.jpg

It feels gross... But it gets worse. Speedway didn't stop at just stealing the design. They also stole the install directions... WORD FOR WORD. I'm not kidding.

    Speedway version:
    openGOOD.jpg

    HRW version:
    openBAD.jpg

    ......

And this isn't isolated. I have a few more examples of this exact thing... And while this is nothing that people like Summit and Jegs aren't doing, it doesn't make it right.

    Support America. Buy American.

Its all about big business just a different product.

I think what makes it suck more is that hotrodding started as an american hobby/sport.

Here's another example. Clive, the manufacturer of genuine Stromberg 97 carburetors, is a good friend of mine. When he decided to reproduce the 97, he decided to go all out and build the best carb he could. Even with packaging - he spent weeks perfecting the packaging and hired an incredible artist to make the box art second to none. Yes, his carbs are expensive - but anyone that has one will tell you that they are worth every penny.

Speedway saw an opportunity to clone the carburetor in China and sell them at a lower price point. The result is, in my opinion, a carburetor that isn't nearly as well done... But that isn't what bothers me so much.

What bothers me is that not only did they clone the carburetor, they stole Clive's packaging design that he spent so much time on:

    Clive's Packaging:

    Speedway Packaging:
    speedway.jpg

Again, this isn't criminal. Speedway isn't murdering babies or anything... But the hot rod world is a small one filled with golden people. I hate to see even one of them trampled.

  30. Ryan are you so self absorbed to think Speedway has to answer to you..get real...Stop getting on the hate train because speedway competes with your friends..lets face it some of the companies you do support have problems of their own ...Some of us work hard for our money and want the best value for our dollar....I get the feeling you would like speedway more if they were alliance vendors..seems to be a pattern here......I still back speedway 100%
