Just what I need...another distraction away from my 34 ford coupe project. NOT! Thing is, I've been looking for a 57 Pontiac chieftain 2 door hardtop or even a 2 door sedan. Solo Lobo cals me up to tell me about this 57 chieftain in his 'hood, parked in this guy's back yard. It's admittedly rough but complete except for a torino front seat. Needs engine work and it appears to me it's been hit in the ***, bowing both 1/4 panels out a bit. It's also rusty and although the gl*** keeps the weather out, the windshield is broke and the 1/4 gl*** is milky. All the trim is supposedly in the trunk and it comes with a better pair of "less rusty" front fenders. Has a good ***le. The guy wants a giant pile-o-money for it but he's outta work and broke so I may have some serious room to negotiate. I think I'll offer the dude what I think it's worth and pray he doesn't accept it. Here it is in all it's beauty.
I'd p*** and finish the ford before someone's finishing it in your memory though I feel this is in vain as where I come from when you can't say no to a good car project they call it coming down with "gossons disease"
Amen, Tim...it's just that I've been looking for so many years for an affordable 57 and if I beat this guy up on price, I may be able to buy it! Won't have any money to build it and it's too damn big to fit in my little garage but I'll finally have my 57 Poncho. And I invented Gosson's disease...literally!
Haha, but dad I can afford the payments on that new Ferrari! But son you couldn't insure it, fuel it, park it off the street and you would have no money for food or rent after the car payment. That's what I said dad, I can afford a Ferrari!
Being sick with the disease too, I would probably buy it since you don't often see them come up. But the price of redoing the chrome alone is going to exceed what you would pay for it.
With all the sensible advice on here, allow me to be the devil on your other shoulder. If you can swing it now, buy it! It's something you want, and you can always let it sit while you finish the ford and buy parts for it.
cool car! I like the 50's Pontiacs, allmost bought one when we were look for a car for my 14 year old son many years ago. Ended up with a 54 Chevy instead, can't remember why. price or condition most likely.
I've been looking for many many years. All Ive been able to find were overpriced for me. I don't want a star chief. I want a super chief. My brother bought one brand new. I've never found any car that I wanted at the time. I say get it while it's available. They don't eat anything. It's not like you can go down to the Pontiac store and buy one when you are ready. Put it on the back burner and it will be there when the time comes.
The car in the photos [top of page] is for sale for [gulp] 5 grand! It's rusty and been hit in the *** hard enough to bow both 1/4 panels out. Don't think it's got a ***le and that's a big problem in Nebraska. I found a really solid one [a chieftain] for sale last summer up in north central Nebraska but the guy won't sell it...won't even answer my letters or phone calls regarding selling the car. I'm with you, Tommy. It's gotta be a super cheif [preferred] or a chieftain. I've had 4 different 57 Pontiacs and they've all been chieftains and super chiefs.
