I just bought a used Wysong 1652 manual squaring shear.( 16ga. 52" ) On the blade, it contacts metal about 1/4" on right side before left. Is this correct for easier cutting? or should blade contact evenly? pardon my ignorance, been a mechanic all my life and never had pleasure of checking a shears adjustments. I got it for $400 and it appears tight/correct. figured it is a fair price for a home shear.. Thanks!! Mike
I've only used a few shears in my life, and all of them start to cut from one side. If you think about it, what force would be needed to cut it all level? Lots
that is what I was thinking, just didn't look right and the blade bolts were loose. I found the set-up shows 1/2" incline.
Shady: That is correct as far as the blade. If you think about it, think of what dynamics would be in play if the blade came down dead on to the material.. You got a great buy, congrats. I have used wysong shears and they have been fine pcs. No issues. Make sure the blade is in good shape and the gibs are adjusted correctly. These keep the blade in alignment and tight to the fixed blade. This will keep your cuts nice and be easier on machine. good luck Luke
I have the same shear that has been converted to hydraulic power, if it is dull you may have 3 more cutting edges left.
