Hi , on my project :http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=629304 I would like to put this motor mounts : http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Small-Block-Chevy-to-1928-48-Ford-Front-Motor-Mount,3270.html What do you think of it ? Is it sturdy of this one : http://www.speedwaymotors.com/1955-1994-Small-Block-Chevy-Engine-Mount,6725.html Thank's for your answers
What do I think? Those aluminium ones look nice but I wouldn't personally trust cast Chinese parts (OK, that's an ***umption based on the source of most of Speedway's catalogue), especially as there will be a lot more torsional load on each pair of mounting bolts than the saddle type. In fact, I wonder if the saddle (Hurst) style mounts were a development back in the day when the single ones were found to twist too much? You have fabrication facilities, so why not make some steel ones along the lines of the small ones - or even make a better looking version of the saddle one?
A truck saddle mount is much sturdier. I had one here off a 1978 chevy school bus. It bolts to the front of the engine, you can "trim" down the other mounts off it. The big trucks and school buses had a bellhousing mount for the Allison automatic transmissions. Funny thing, the 1965 327 I am currently building for a back up? the front bolts there on the p***enger side are not drilled and tapped, the "top bolt" there is supposed to hold the fuel pump rod up while you install the pump. Forgetting to back out that "extra long bolt" will cause your fuel pump to hang up.. don't ask, but I dragged one home on a chain.. Also.. them truck motors are "high revving" high horsepower, if you get a chance to get a few for "extra", grab them.. the engine from the 78 bus was a nascar style 4 bolt main engine.
