Is there any history on this car and these boys? I really like the car and would like to see some more pictures and know the history.

  2. Sorry, the picture is not worki g. It might just be my computer, but there is the pic on page 2 of the 50s style photo thread here.

  3. I can't see the car , but I am proud to say I grew up in Inkster. I bought stuff from Gator at Hollywood Speed, Walt at Walts Auto Supply...home of Walts Puffer...google it, and home of the world famous Jimmy Jones skirts. You can also throw Bishops wrecking yard in there too.

  4. Hey I lived in Inkster, (Amherst and Cherry Hill) and Garden City, Florence St for 40 years.
Did you ever go to the Flats. (Inkster Park)

Don't know how old you are, many week end's in Hines Park @ Noler Bend, in the 70s

Now in New smyrna Beach, Florida.

    I had a 72 Green white strip Vega with a DZ 302

  6. Of course I remember the flats, alongi's Italian bakery on Inkster and Avondale. I grew up near Inkster park and went to Cherry Hill High School. Do you remember Tom in the metal flake sunbird or his buddy with the green Mina or Anna with the green camaro? This would have been early 80's

This picture was taken in late summer 1961 at Joe Bartos Shell station, On the corner of Avondale and Middlebelt Road, Inkster Michigan. Joe's Shell station was the hub of Hot Rod activity (after hours) from the 50's well into the late 60's ....

From left to right 16 year old Howard Ballard,... 16 Year old Jimmy Killius,... We don't know the guy with the glasses, He just pulled in with the Olds to take a look, and far right 14 Year old Larry Hensley...... You guys are going to think I am making this up, but the car was named "Greasy Lightning" (no,.... I am not kidding).. It had a "U-Fab" intake on a 392 Hemi, with a push button Torque Flight. It belonged to, and was built by Jimmy Killius after hours at Joe Bartos Shell where Jimmy was employed. Howard Ballard helped,... Howard had a 1946 Convertible with a 392 hooked up to the the Ford trans and rear.......

    Those were the days !

I remember Anna very well. Remember Michigan Street Unlimited? I ran around in a 69 GTX 1st, then a 69 Boss in Coral, then a 70 Cuda done up India Red.

  9. She was a cool chick that made tons of passes at Detroit Dragway for sure.

  11. I can tell you that corner doesn't look like that at all today. There is still a gas station on the northwest corner , but they don't turn wrenches or speak English very well and you might wanna get your fuel quickly and keep motoring down the road

Grew up on the west side of Detroit but always cruised those parts before I got drafted in 69'. Cruised them again after I got back but things seemed to be changed. Everything seemed changed now that I think about it.

  20. Funny I still drive through my old neighborhood regularly...about 2 months ago that gas station was raided and is now shut down. There were about 5 cop cars there and the whole thinks was taped off...no idea what happened..
