I have a 1988 454 and turbo 4oo trans out of a truck. changing from efi to carb. the trans has one wire on left side in front of the speedo cable . i think thats the kick down wire? not sure how to make it all work with a carb. i heard there was a swich that slides back when carb linkage goes back and forth. this engine and trans swap is going into my 7 year old sons 1968 impala fastback thanks for advice irondave42
That's the kick down wire. It needs 12 volts when the throttle is at almost WOT. That truck probably had the switch under the dash and was actuated by the gas pedal. There's others available some are rotary, some are plungers mounted near the carb. Aftermarket has a few variations too. Edit : I misread and thought that was 58 impala
G'day, I had an ot 4x4 project/parts truck that I picked up. It had been converted from turbo 350 to 400. They retained the original bracketry on the quadrajet and had a lokar kit that used a kickdown cable to an electonic box. The box connected to the kickdown wire on the trans and worked really slick. I think the Lokar kits are around $80 from Summit. ms
