I need to make front fenders to my model a and would like to find out what is a good lenght and position for bike style fenders. I also would like to get ideas how to attach those so that they are easily removed.
I have 35-36 Ford sparewheel cover I´m using for this purpose and would like to get it right once.
I like this one(attached pictures), but I would make them an inch or so longer from the rear.

I can understand the difficulty in finding information about cycle fenders on open wheel cars. Far too many pictures of vintage cars do not include construction details. If the pictures exist is little ***urance that such method really works or do the braces break or crack. Cycle fenders were a big deal in the fifties when the cops commonly used fender "violations" as a tool in suppressing rodders. Now that so many of the open wheel cars are driven by old guys, the perceived threat is not there and the young cops have forgotten that they are supposed to hate hotrods. Good Luck: Fred A

Cycle fenders look best when they are shorter but work better when the wrap the tire, I have a few photos of some cycle fenders sorry no detailed construction pics. one on a disc brake set up using 1/4" flat stock and tube, this car was done about 6 years ago and as far as i know they are still on there working good.
The other one is the 404jr front fenders tube off the backing plate, this car has been driven a good bit and the fenders are holding up great.
I would use tubing to make the mounts and spread the load, a lot of vibration on them.
Sorry i don't have better photos but i hope theses help.

I wouldn't make the mounts from tube, they will crack and break no matter what you do, I've tried this method with little success a few times now, (slow learner), and I have found that 1/4 in by 1 1/2 flat bar stock to be the best. Get creative, there isn't "the" way to do them, everybody likes different looks, build what you like, take your time, walk 50 feet away to see them as others do.

You have all been too helpful, thanks! I'm going to do them the way in last post.
I just bought my second 36 Ford spare wheel cover yesterday. I can now choose the way I do the back fenders.

I did finish the front fenders and they turned out fine. I want to share some images of them to you. I´m not going to paint them. :)
