Thanks for the article. Learned some new things about Gene's career. Help's satisfy the cravings while we wait for new build progress reports. --- Steve ---

Ok, this is what I think is one of the coolest posts to date. I contacted the Hilborn Injection Company about the resurrection of the Moonlighter. Company Vice President Edris A. Snipes sent me an e-mail back stating that he would be glad to donate a set of ram tubes for the Moonlighter's Hilborn Injection system. Now comes the cool part. I sent the model number and serial number of the injector to see if they could identify the original purchaser. It turns out that Gene was the original purchaser in 1965. That is when Gene built the Moonlighter and #109 is the original injector he used on the first 427 high riser.
Many thanks to Mr. Snipes and the rest of the folks at Hilborn for the donation and the copy of the original invoice.

  8. Way to go Frank . Thats neat they still have that information and willing to donate parts. I think 37willysgasser had the same luck awhile back. It looks like the car is coming together really nice. Keep the pictures coming THANKS

  11. I won't be able to make the debut on May 25th. When would be the next shot for me to be able to come down and see Mr. Cromer's car in action along with a bunch of other gassers including Quain's?

Our group is going to be in Knoxville Tenn June 22 not sure Gene is going. I'm sure if we get the moonlighter far enough along to make a pass on the 25 that he will be chopping at the bit to run it again so maybe he will go to Knoxville.

  14. Quain,
I'm looking ahead and want to make a trip.Whats the 3rd one. The next 2 is impossible as much as I want to be there. My wife is up for the trip the 25th but it would be a drive down drive back because of a family picnic monday. 9 hrs one way 20 years ago would have been no problem. Thanks again for all your posts and dedication.

Danny, that's the way the original looked. It was written in pencil.

This is a great picture. I think it deserves a caption. Something like "Gene and Melvin working the magic again after 40 years". I bet somebody can come up with a better one though. --- Steve ---

Looking good Gene and the entire gang that is working hard to make the deadline. I'd also like to say thanks for taking the time out to talk with my Dad. He and Mom stopped over to see if the shirts were in before they headed north to NJ for a visit. I'll be sending my sister by in a few weeks before she heads up to pick up some shirts. I love this thread and check it first thing everyday and many times throughout the day.

The caption should be, "Melvin, what did I do with the nuts that hold the injectors on?"

  24. OR... Melvin would you have thought 40 years ago we would have this many people watching us on the hamb rebuilding the old girl.
Melvin...Gene 40 years ago if you would have mentioned ham I would have thought you meant a sandwich

Cold chills right now this is just too much, again I'm on the road and missing some of the classic moments. I should have kept it at my shop and not let Gene have it back until my season is over so I could have been there for this kind of stuff. Note the headlight rings hanging on the front of the chassis getting ready to be mounted on the front end those are the original ones that Gene made from aluminum plate when he built the car in the 60s.

Big day today, the lettering is being done as I post this. Here's some pics of some random stuff and the lettering in progress. Sorry I had to leave before it was completed.
