I'm gonna send my wheels out to get powder coated a different color, and Im wanting to get the brand new trim rings off without damaging them.

They dig into the wheel. That's how they stay on. I don't see how it could be done.

I know they make high-temp fibergl*** masking tape for powder coating. Ask your powder coater what they'd suggest first.

Just use a big screwdriver and gently work around the trim ring. HRP

if the picture you posted is the rings your question is about they should pop off like a hubcap. I heated a cheap screw driver and bent the tip to a 90 about two inches up from the tip, blunted the tip a little and use it to pry from the inside edge, carefully and working my way around the perimeter. Hope this helps!

I've always used a double ended brake adjuster with a sock over the s**** portion to slowly work around the perimeter. The old original 16" stainless were a lot easier to remove (imho) and they didn't dig into the paint as bad as the repo's seem to do.

If you can get an area started with the bent screwdriver or gasket s****er,try doing the rest of it with sections of wood paint stir sticks.Your less likely to damage them with wood.

    X 2 on that.

  9. G'day, I have used a Snap On hubcap removal tool for years. Wide end with a good angle. If I am doing something very special I'll put a layer of masking tape on it for each ring. Haven't damaged one yet, knock on wood.

I use these - non marring s****er set from Harbor Freight - one of the truly great tools they offer and a steal at $12.99 for the set of four. I use them to pry or remove anything which has a delicate finish including hub caps and trim rings. I round the corners with a sander to eliminate the pointed edge....
