I need your guy's help!! Anytime I have had a question about something I just search the forum and have always been able to come up with an answer. Until now! I came across these front leaf springs in the junkyard this past weekend and have not been able to find any info on them(or even a picture). I am working on a '21 dodge brothers roadster and these springs were bolted to what was left of a late teen's-early 20's dodge frame. It had a Model A cowl, a dodge motor and the frame back to just behind the cowl. Does anyone have any info on these? There appears to be a coil spring in the set up that is broke. Wondering how long the coil is supposed to be? Also wondering if these worked well or if I should just take them off, go with plain leafs and shackles and keep the rest for conversation? I sure appreciate any info on this, thanks in advance, you guys are the best

Those look like articulated shackles that off roaders use for more suspension travel. I'd be curious as to what they came on stock as well. Kinda neat, but can't see a use for them at all on a hot rod build.

Are these the dimensions you were asking Johnny? I measured 4.5" from middle of bolt on frame to middle of spring bolt, 4.5" (green lines) from spring bolt to end of shackle and 3" (blue line) in between where the coil is supposed to sit. I don't know if there is supposed to be a space where the I have the red line and question mark I would guess it should have some space there otherwise the whole setup is pointless.

I was wondering if they were for something off road as well badshifter. What I took it off looked like the front of a doodle bug so I was kind of wondering if they were stock or not. They fit really well and the front of the frame wasn't modified to get them to fit. I agree probably not anything a hot rod would need but I dare to be different. When I first saw them I was thinking about small airbags, like for a motorcycle, in place of the coils for changing the front ride height. What a conversation piece.

I don't think they articulated like the off-road style shackles. All pivot points in your photos are single axis and parallel to one another. Articulated would have axis at right angles too.

I believe the coil spring was a bit of a shock absorber, though it did not control jounce or rebound, just softened the initial impact.

    Cool artifact of earlier engineering!
