Putting a 80's something ford AOD in with the stock wiring harness, don't have a clue on hooking it up, any one know...............
I asked this same question recently and was told there isnt any extra wires needed. all wires suposedly are neutral switch and back up lights. I havent checked any further. I dont have a tranny yet so havent looked at number of wires on the switch or a schematic of the wirers. E4od does require wires and a computer Im told.
The neutral switch ( i think) is forward of the shift linkage and it looks like an electrical connector for the harness to plug into just aft of the linkage. This is a conmputor controled 40 coupe with the new GT 40 5 liter motor and street and performance engine harness. Ain't mine just building it.
Running an overdrive trans from an '90 Mustang behind a 2.3 froma '74 Mustang ( no computer). Use two switches on the dash. Ons is the 3rd 4th shift the other locks up the converter. Three wires. you run 12 volts to one, ( at the trans) the other two you go to ground through the switch to activate.
The AOD does not require any wiring to be hooked up. The wiring is for what was stated earlier (Nuetral switch, reverse light). What you do need is a kickdown bar going from your carb to the valve body (there is a small lever above the shift linkage) in order to open up the valve body. chevy uses vaccuum, Ford used mechanical. I used a kickdown bar out of 87 lincoln town car in my '55 runing a 302 and it worked perfectly. Many people think that this bar was for only engaging the pasing gear, IT IS NOT! this bar controlls how far the vavle body opens and how much pressure there is in the trans. Do not try to run this tranny without the kickdown bar, your trans won't shift and you'll burn it up.
PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!! It has to be adjusted from the start it WILL burn down in a couple of miles. Ford had a recall on most models with a plastic connector and replaced the with brass many years and many burned up transmissions back.
