I've been reading threads here for a while and just registered. pulled my 1957 race craft down from the rafters in the garage and would like to here from others of that time. particularly from so cal. I will try to load some pics, but i'm new to computers.
This is in Whittier CA. 1959. Our team for the 500 lap race in Hemet. From left are Jhonny Gardner, Louis Crawford, Dusty Offenhauser (me), Mike Thomas ,and Beverly Solo.
This was a race put on to raise money for medical bills when Bobby Olivero's quarter midget caught fire at Los Alamitos.
Monte Vista 1959 or 60. I think it's Darryl Domes, third row outside, Curtis McKiney, inside third row, me in the back. Must have qualified well that day.
Thanks for posting all the great photo's. Welcome from the west coast of Florida. I have always loved quarter midgets and what a wonderful way of learning to drive and race. For many racers this was their very first experience. Thanks for the memories. Jimbo
I was also there! It was the end of the Strip and I remember racing my 1/4 midget, I was only six but Vegas was so Cool! I would race again in 59 and maybe 60 but not clear as I don't have any Vegas trophies anymore. Maybe Dad will remember! Great Stuff! Danny Ruth Pacemaker #1
Hi, I just saw this and was wondering if you have any other photos especially of Dennis Lodes. i raced against Dusty and Olivero, Felts, Mike Reed. Thanks, Dennis
Hi Dennis: I have some pictures from Whittier and Pomona what was your car number and what kind of car?
Welcome From Auckland, New Zealand. Your pics are awesome. I learnt to drive in Quarter Midgets down here also. A few years later though, but like you I guess a real highlight from my youth.
Hi, Love your pics. Spotted myself on the outside front row at whittier. I raced 22E from San Bernardino. Started in 1956 in my HP Safe that my Dad won in a Pomona QMRA raffle and named it Dollar Special. Then got my Kurtis Kraft jelly model and painted it Candy Apple Red. Raced at Corona, Whittier, Monte Vista, Los Alamitos, Pomona and all the tracks around there. Was at the Bobby Olivero benefit race in San Bernardino and my Dad and I went to the hospital to give him the check for the funds we raised that day. Small world isn't it? Loved my racing life, best childhood ever. Being a girl was a little tough, but didn't let it bother me. Gave the boys a run for their lives. Ha...Will post some pics in a few months. Just moved and can't get to my racing things. Janet Hall Sebern
