I have read a few different things on this and was wondering if anyone has a definite answer. Did the phenolic insulator block between the carb and the intake use gaskets from the factory? And if there is a gasket - gasket between the carb and block, between the block and intake, or both??? I have read a bunch of things, people saying to use both, people saying dont use any, and some say use one on top/underneath insulator block? What is correct?? Right now I am using both gaskets, but I want it to be correct I looked in my shop manual and It doesnt say anything about it... A factory drawing would be GREAT! Thanks!!!
There are some references to 2 of each type of gasket related to carb and insulator and spacer here - http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_54/201.htm http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_54/202.htm I would not expect a carb flange or manifold to be machined well enough to seal against anything except a gasket.
make sure the gaskets have a hole or notch for the vacuum port on the carb. I made my own gasket and missed that, did not run very well. Cesar
