I hate FB as much as the next guy. But I do have an account. My question is whether it's possible to link a thread to FB. I have some contacts in FB who I think would love the thread "Which Way to the Beach" about the road trip to Austin. However, I don't know whether they will come to the HAMB to read it. Most aren't car people. So I thought I would make it easy for them if possible.

    Thanks,

    Ryan K.

  2. Can't you just copy and paste the URL to FB?

FB is great for sharing Rod info.
Just keep away from all the personal drama on there.
Business wise, it is the best thing since sliced bread.
    Totally free promo opportunities.
Pretty much ever business of any worth has a FaceBook page.
Huge numbers of Hot Rod clubs as well.
We use it a lot to promo Rod Events, Drags, Swap meets etc.
Gets the message out quick and clear.

    JM2CW fot the FB knockers.

Lifestylz: I will try that. Thank you.

I don't do much on FB. I agree for business purposes, it is good. I have a hard time spilling too much personal info on web; not my thing. Thanks for info.

I agree. However, my mom and other assorted relatives and in laws we don't get to see very often use it quite a bit. So it gives them a chance to see what kids are doing without me having to make copies of every photo I take and then mail or email to all of them.

  7. Pretty much every Hot Rodding name and business is on Facebook.
So what do you guys know that these guys haven't figured out?:eek:

My mom couldn't care less what I say anymore... She gave up a long time ago. So I know she won't be lurking me here on HAMB. On my OP, I was just wondering whether it was possible to link a thread to FB. My dad is into old cars, and actually so is my mom. So I thought they and others on my FB page would dig that story in OP. It kind of branched out from there and went off topic a bit. And this post isn't going to help.

Actually if they read that thread, and maybe see other cool stuff here on HAMB, it may get my old man off his ass and actually get a car to work on instead of just talking about it his entire life. So I think that would be cool. God knows I haven't been successful in getting him to buy a car. He's forgotten more about cars than I will ever know. Now I wish I would have listened to him back then so I didn't have to figure out so much now. It all comes around.

I can add a "Facebook like" button to all threads if that's your thing.

Ryan: I don't think necessary. Thank you. I just did as Post #2 suggested. Copy and paste: Worked; easy enough; good by me.

  13. That is true.

But 1 out of hundreds of thousand doesn't alter what I said. :D

I don't do Facebook, twitter, Linkedin, etc. Heck, I don't even text!

I vote a BIG, FAT NO on anything to do with Facebook.

The last local car club I was in started links with Facebook and before you knew it, nothing happened on our website anymore. Everyone was talking on F***book!!!!

To me, F***book is for 3 differnent kinds of people; teenagers, grand parents following the kids and for people that need to get a life. All they do is sit around with their face buried in F***book to find out what someone said at the club last night, or who's dog had puppies, or where someone is going on vacation, or blah, blah, blah.

It's the biggest "time suck" I've ever seen.

Besides, I thought the Jalopy Journal was all about "Old School"?

  15. Here if one of many discussions of how much Facebook will really help promote your business or other activity....The old idiom that if you build a better mousetrap the world will beat a bath to your door is still valid. A product or service sells it's self based on quality or need not the number of hits it gets on Facebook...........

For businesses today having a Facebook page is now become part of the owning a business. A Facebook page is the equivalent of a free Yellowpage ad, but does it really help drum up business? Here are three reasons why Facebook is overrated for business:
Of the 640 million users how many of those are businesses, politicians, celebrities, models, and anyone doing any kind of PR scrambling for the Facebook like. This knocks the 640 million user number down quite a bit. If this number were divided into actual users versus businesses we would see a different figure, The dramatic increase to 640 million users can be due to the myriad of businesses jumping on the Facebook bandwagon. Out of the number of active Facebook subscribers the number of those who fall into your businesses demographics who will bring your business new leads, or use your product or service is very small.
Of the active users with lots of friends all posting their likes, events and links, how many likes and links do you think other Facebook users will actually click on? If they click on these likes how many of those will turn into business, I am sure very few.
Second, Facebook has become too commercialized. Towns, cities, restaurants and all kinds of businesses, now have their own Facebook pages. You cannot even make friends with certain persons without them throwing their business in your face to drum up sales adding to the commercialization of Facebook. Not to mention all of the event invites a user receives. Commercialization is a big turn off for people, no one likes to feel that they are being solicited for a sale. Facebook users are being bombarded with so many likes and events that the number of positive results for businesses is going to dwindle.
Every Facebook user has a different experience on Facebook. Teenagers use Facebook to converse, some use it for games and others hardly use it at all. There are those who make friends with everyone and anyone and those who only make friends with the people they actually know. Lets look at a Facebook page, most will upload photos, there will be comments on those photos, some might make a comment. Nothing too personal. How much of that can any one person stand of that in a day? Facebook is limited. This eliminates Facebook's effusiveness for many businesses.
If you are looking for Facebook as the magic bullet to grow your business do not be disappointed if it does little to nothing to help grow your business.
Facebook is no doubt overrated for business. Having a Facebook page is like having a free yellow page ad in a directory. With Facebook acting as the people and business directory, your business should have a page to lend to your businesses professional image. Just do not expect your business to grow overnight because you have a Facebook page.

Couldn't you just spread the gospel about jalopy journal and keep it real.? And if you hate fartbook why would you have it? Makes no sense... F-Facebook

  17. Well anyone who is gullible enough to expect ANY media to grow their business overnight shouldn't be in business.
My point was facebook is another tool to use and is nowhere as evil as most (usually those going on hearsay) believe.
It works for the rodders I associate with so I'm happy.
Each to their own aye. :D

    Read this:

    https://www.facebook.com/legal/terms

Really read it... Not only do you not own anything you put on facebook, but everything you post, like, comment on, is used against you and sold to the highest bidder. Sure, you can set your privacy setting so that only "friends" can see your content. However, those settings do not restrict their marketing endeavors. Facebook will sell anything and everything you put on their site.

I'm on facebook, but I consider myself to be the dumbest asshole in America for knowing what the above means and still having an account.

I've been on FB maybe a dozen times under a fake name just to see what it's about. I think it sorta sucks. I found a page recently for a town that we used to live in and was reading the posts and scrolling down the one LOOOOONG page for over an hour, and periodically having to click on "older posts" link. I mistakenly clicked on something I didn't mean to, and when I came back, guess what... I had to start all over again, the scrolling and clicking "older posts". Forget it, too much trouble. Sucky web design if you ask me.
