40 Ford tail lites are very poor . Why ? Because they are small inside and have very little reflectivity. My suggestion ,since your going to want to rewire and add turn signals. Build some new lights. Check out Jivin Jer's thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=726708&page=19
pages 15 to 20 , It is a step by step process to build a pair of tail lites . The idea was developed over 50 years ago. It is a very simple design.

This is how every car-guy wants to find his forty! Straight and solid and complete.
You should be smiling for a long time!

  8. I know they aren't traditional, and they do look funny when you walk up on the car, but I put LED's in my 47 just because the tail lights are so small on that car.
Friends who have followed me in the dark all comment on how those LED's light up the night. I get to keep the original shape of my lights and have something that can be seen well at night. I'll take safety over tradition any day.

  9. Nice find ... ;)

Looks like the future owner is already planning a test drive ....

Thanks for all the well wishers and nice words, I got a battery for her, I put the distributor back in it. I put some gas in the carb and she fired right up. It ran for a bit and I put some more fuel in the carb and it fired up and ran so I know she runs. I draind the gas(?) out of the tank. ewwww that smell, don't you know that smell....The last time I started the starter got stuck so I had to tackle that. Here is my next dellemia. I don't know why, but the clutch seems to be stuck or frozen, with the clutch pedal in the normal mode, out, i can turn the tires by hand with no resistance, when the transmission is in 1st gear. I pushed the clutch in a and released it several times, it still seems like there is no resistance on the pedal. What is up with the clutch and how do I fix it?

You think the clutch disc it stuck to the flywheel. I had that happen once. Get the car aimed toward a clear path , start it ,holding the clutch pedal down ,pump the brakes ,It will free in a few feet, Good luck.

No i think i have the opposite problem, the clutch seems to be engaged all of the time, like it is in when the pedal is out.

That is what he is saying. So with a clear path in front of you start the car and it will jump to life and start going. Keep the clutch pedal in and pump your brakes until the clutch releases it self, should happen fairly quick. If not turn the key off and come to a safe stop.
