Where exactly is the engine ground supposed to connect? And to add this isnt a stock engine( 292 y-block) . All I see is a braided wire from the manifold to the firewall. Should I look somewhere else?
The battery ground cable should be bolted directly to the block or trans for starting purposes when the load is the highest. The ground cable from the block to the body or frame is not that critical. It only caries the current for the accessories.
The best source for info about your f100 is the ford truck enthusiast forum. There is a section for 48-1953 trucks.
Check attched pics, My Battery ground is under the floor board and goes to the frame, but a lil rusty battery box is what is making contact. Is there a proper diagram of photo of where I need to ground my battery.
I'm with Tommy on this. Your high current draw is the starter, so make sure that the starter is connected to the ground side of the battery and the ch***is is grounded to the block.
Yes on the braided wire from the manifold to the firewall. That one caused me to fry a perfectly good generator on my '60, so good catch. Any word on the progress?
IMO The reason the starter cable lost its protective jacket is because A: 20+ years old and B: I may have gotten engine degreaser onto the cable, which ate thru the old insulation jacket...Why that would cause the truck to not run...beyond me...The copper cable was bright and pretty, any way, lesson learned.
sounds like you got it solved, Nothing wrong with changing out old cables as well as grinding down to bar metal on frame to get a good ground
