Okay,I know I'm gonna catch it from you six lovers but here goes.I FINALLY swapped the six for a 64' 283 w/power pak heads.Went .030 over, comp cam, msd, weiand w/600 holley, etc... I drive this car alot & the tired ol' six just didn't have enough for highway driving. So bash me if you will but it was time for an upgrade.I did keep the correct year & parts to the car & era.:p

I completely understand your reasoning. I did the same thing with my old truck...
Now what are you planning on doing with the old six?

I don't have any plans for it right now. It's on the engine stand setting in the corner of my garage.

The six looked right at home in there but then again so does the V8. Should be a lot of fun to drive.

Back in the day, it was common to swap the six out for a V8..as soon as you could.
It is in more recent years that the 6 has achieved it's new found popularity (albeit with a few exceptions).
    Nice choice.

  8. Think I've seen that at the Rebel Run before. Nice car. Even better now with the V8.

I remember the new '64 'plain Jane' Chevys around San Jose...but as 'docile' as they looked, they all had big blocks and 4 speeds!

It was the 'age of the Sleeper'!

  11. Are those heater hoses date coded? :D

Just kidding, congrats on moving up to more cylinders. Enjoy it!

there isn't any car that can't be improved by the addition of a SBC....especially a `64 chevy

Yeh, good move. I've had plenty of old sixs, but the SBC will be much better in the long run. Neat looking car.

The old 6 looked like fun. The new improved 283 looks like a hell of a good time! Nice installation!

Sorry guys but I've never been a fan of six cylinder powered cars. Why drive and under powered vehicle when you can have fun with a V-8?

It's kinda nice to read an entire thread and not find one snide remark---at least thus far. You will be happy with the SBC.
