i'll have to call ****, his website lists the open drive version a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the torque tube model. usually, it's the other way around.
The guy that did take over that conversion, well don't go that route. I created a post about it to warn people about it.
yeah, X2 on that... **** Spadaro carries winters units, the Rodsville is entirely different, a beefed up early halibrand. Call Sig, the proprietor.
what exactly are the differences? just the added strength? they both use the internals from a 40 banjo? or does the winters require it's own differential?
The rodsville unit will accept vintage halibrand parts and LOOKS like the real deal. The winters unit has no pinion support like a model a or early '32 rear end, and the rear cover has more bolts in it, I've never used the winters before so I can't comment on its strength, etc...
The instructions for the Winters says "This unit not intended for compe***ion application or high horsepower vehicles." Edit; These instructions and warning were about the Winters/Spadaro Q/C, sorry for any confusion.....................
The Winters V8 Quickchange has a very heavy duty Pinion Support, and I was told by Beaver Winters that it will take 500 HP as long as you are not side stepping the clutch with slicks on the drag strip. The rear case is also 1" shorter that the Halibrand, so you do not have to notch the gas tank in a 32 Ford application. Other than the 10 bolt rear cover it is almost identical to a Halibrand, but stronger.
Sure looks like no pinion support to me... maybe they make them differently for spadaro? Hell, maybe they're just winters look-a-likes. Hopefully **** can chime in and clear this up? Like I said, I've never used one personally.
Winters has different versions of their quick changes. The one Spadaro sells is the one without the pinion support. It uses the Ford V8 differential and stock axles. They supply the ring and pinion. It's no better than a Ford banjo rear end for strength. As shown above the Rodsville is a clone of the Halibrand and is a very nice unit. The Winters 3605 will accept V8 housings, has a supported pinion and uses their wedgelock differential in 28 or 31 spline. An axle conversion is needed for the V8 housings to use this center section. Hope this helps. Nick
If your reading this thread, Here's a link to an old thread from 2005 that you should read. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68124 On page two, down on post #31, Cyclone Kevin calls out **** Spadaro for not having any pinion support in his version of the Winters Quickchange. **** responds a couple of post down on his reasoning. It's a great discussion thread.
Does cyclone kevin have a website to sell his quickchange? I was wondering because doing a google search the only place that sold the quickchange was www.hotrodworks.com
