Has anyone on here put later model chevy seats in a trifive chevy? Im looking at a bench seat w/console out of an 2001 silverado.
I started to put '64 Pontiac buckets in my '50 Chevy before I sold it. The truck seat might be okay if you have it recovered and eliminate the headrests.
i once almost bought a 55 hardtop that had captains chairs from a van in it they were way too large for the 55
IMHO nothing looks right in there except a '60's GM bucket. '65'ish Riviera bench with bucket backs look good in anything. Of course these are all getting harder to find and ridiculously expensive. Sorry, no real help, just offering my opinion, and yes it stinks Good luck.
I also think anything made after about 1965 looks odd and ugly in a tri five. I have seen lots of them with 64 Impala or Corvair seats in them and they look real good to me.
I agree with above, stick with 60's Chevy. Although that being said I will be putting in a set of 2006 Impala buckets in my 56 sedan delivery but in my 56 sedan and my 55 sedan I have 66 Chevelle buckets.
The leanbacks have to be square across the top and absolutely no headrests. Trouble is that the "good' seats almost all come from rigs that are collectable themselves. I'm still trying to figure out if you are talking about a car or truck though. You might have to cut down the seat bases to get the height right with the later model truck seats.
Mine arent GMs and I think they will pass. Trouble is they are from a mid 60s Ford and will cost you just as much if not more than the GMs. I have seen some later model buckets that look OK, but the head rest have been removed and covered over.
in my '56 2 dr I had to raise mine[64 Imp seats] up a couple inches on the base mount as they were a bit too low for the clutch to feel right,I'm 5'8" so it would be different if you were over 6' I guess...Also the less pointy the seat backs are helps.....
Here are some 88-92 Firebird seats (I was told when I was looking for a dr side hinge cover) in a 57 hardtop we were doing some work on. Bit dated, but you get the idea. They were pretty comfortable and dr side was electric.
Please don't do it. But if you really want Bucket seats, use the ones from a 63-65 Impala S.S. Anything else looks like crap.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/hamb/attach/jpg.gif Hey Swiss50, This pict kind of shows '65 Impala SS buckets in a custom '55 chevy. The guy that built this car measured my '65 Impala SS to check their fit. Its a good look with the factory 65ss chrome on the seat. I'd take a look at mid 90's Chrysler LH body front seats for a more modern alternative. They're dimensions are close to '65ss buckets if you loose their headrests. They can be found in mid to late 90's Chrysler LHS, Concord, Dodge Intrepid and Eagle Visions. They also have electric and manual options out there. Good Luck.
Like 60-61 through 66 GM buckets are all the same seat with different trim. Even the Corvair used the same seat. Which means you can buy a whole Corvair for the seats for what a pair out of an Impala SS will cost.
The full size 58-61 GM buckets with the metal backs are not close to being the same as the 62-65 full size versions and they cost a fortune if in decent (not mint) shape....just FYI
1967 Barracuda bench seat with arm rest I got on Craigslist. Nice find and looks great in my '59 F100. It cleaned up nice from the pic.
picture a 1970 ish Mopar split bench .. with highbacks and brown diamond tuck. that's what my buddy had in the late 70's. ugliest seat I have ever seen in a tri-5. I had the later 60's GM buckets in my old 56. 68-69-70 style. traded the original bench with black tuck-n-roll for them and thought I made a great deal. stock bench seats were still throw aways back then.
We used to use '65-67 Impala SS or '66-67 GTO buckets a lot. Try finding a nice pair now, but you can always get them recovered. The height on them was perfect. Bob
I've seen early Corvair buckets for reasonable prices and they look great in a tri-five. However I think the Corvair seats are just a little bit wider than the early Impala buckets of the same time period..... They look the same size but they're not. -Dustin Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
