Picked up a rat rod this month and have been questioning myself as to what I really have. As You know you cant always trust what the ***le says it is on some of the older cars. They could say 85 S-10 on them my says 1929 4 door Chevy Sedan. The only reason I really car is if I want to pick up some body parts for it They can get quite expensive to just do trial an error. Radiator Shroud is a 32 Ford thats easy, at least the top of the cowl is Model A if not all of it. I am betting the windshield is Model A as well because it opens and doesnt roll like a Chevy The rest of the car should be 29 Chevy but then again it also looks like an A model 4d. Im not that good on knowing the body lines of actually what it should be and seeing if I can get some help identifying it. I have loaded a bunch of pictures to photobucket and can take more if needed here is the link Appreciate any comments, thanks DJ Weaz http://s1299.photobucket.com/user/robbennett69/slideshow/rat rod
Yep, the previous owner evidently was able to find a Chevy ***le that he used to get this Ford registered. You might want to be very careful with that. What are your plans for saving this one once you tear it apart ? I imagine getting rid of that front suspension will be your first order of business ? Don
Looks like a great starting point. First thing, I'd lose the Mustang II front end for a drop axle with split wishbones or hairpins. Move the brake booster to underneath the floor and maybe a 2" chop. Have fun, but don't mention R.. R.. around here.
I will make note of the RR taboo lol. Am planning on cleaning it up been doing it little by little. Didnt know what parts to order for it. Don't want it to be the Double R It will never be a show car but do want it to look nicer than it does. am planning on moving the booster underneath as well as the battery and the tank and putting a rear seat in it. I would like to go to WWW and powder coated red rims. To eliminate some of the work on top I am going to get a vinyl top put on it that will go down below the rear window on the line instead of just the middle. BTW straight axle would look much better on it.
Yep, wheels/tires, booster, front end, and radiator winged bird thingie being changed will make a huge difference in the car. If you change those 4 items it will make a whole new car out of it. Don
In MA., it could be consitered a 2002 Ford, Model 31. (If it was built in 2002) It could also be called something else by the registry, (depending upon what the inspector had for breakfast.)
OK, board of judges of the unwashed m***es, Is this an unmentionable car or is it just not painted yet? Be aware that my feelings may be ill reparably hurt by your decision.
You have a nice '38 Olds. The RR references were due to OP using the term in his original posting. With that old paint on yours, it would be hard for me to want to repaint it. Looks like a time-worn yet straight old car
That is not a RR...just a project car! Your car doesn't appear to be falling apart and slapped together with random parts to make it hap-hazardly get down the road!! Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
re: "30-31 slant window Ford sedan", I believe that these were 1931 only. And it's a town sedan, model 160-B, Murray body (arched window tops).
That's not really that bad to start with. With a few changes mentioned you would have something cool there. Lot's of potential, I think.
Thats not a bad looking car. With a little work it would make a great looking Hot Rod. Good luck and have fun!
Straight axle? Or do you mean an I beam axle? A straight axle is just that, straight from king pin to king pin and usually tube. These are what you normally see on a 'G***er'. Your typical Hot Rod axle is an I beam axle, the type seen on early Ford cars (28 and up) the 1932 'heavy' axle is considered the ideal axle as they are ideal to 'drop' however now there are many company's that make new I beams already dropped. If you sent away an order for a 'Straight axle, ** wide' you will receive a dead straight tube that you can put your spindles on. These are I Beam axles (And one tube Ford axle, however these are not popular to use). With thanks to OzRodders for the pic. This is a Straight axle. That's kind of as basic as I can make it. Enjoy your car, it just helps to know what you order is what you want. Cheers. Doc.
Well.......although you are technically correct, most of us refer to a car that has non IFS as being "straight axled". Just like we call an engine a motor, and technically a motor is electrically driven. Or how hub caps cover the wheel instead of just the hub. It's an American thing, we take liberties with the Queens English. You Ausies must be more rigid in your terminology than we are. Don
Yeah, 5 minutes of thought and I should have seen that but we brainwashed Ex Army only know how to fight for the British Empire, the Queen and the language........... Or some **** like that? I dunno, I'm an Aussie we fight for beer, BBQs and Hot Rods....... Doc.
