Hey Guys, My wife and I are moving to Kansas City the first week of July and as I take a brake from packing and trying to find a place to live I thought I'd ask the HAMB what cool stuff there is to do? There seems to be plenty to do but I'm on the hunt for good hot rod stuff/spots and food spots. I mean a guys gotta eat right? Haha We'll be driving our fleet south as trailers are for boats and I'll start work tattooing at Freaks on Noland on the 5th. If your local swing by and say hi if you've got a minute. Really looking forward to seeing what's to be found Thanks in advance!
Tons of car stuff in KC. Huge cruise night in Belton, MO each month - (S.E. of KC), Pete and Jakes is in Peculiar, MO. Greaserama is another to check out. Lots of local car shows and cruise nights. There are almost too many things to list. Sounds like you'll be in the Noland Road area in MO?
Cool And yeah the shop is on Noland Road, I believe in the Independence area. No idea where we will live though, still waiting to hear back from a few different places. Looking forward to meeting some new HAMBers and enjoying the summer in KC
Ha, I just moved out of Independence, MO a couple of years ago. Take my advice, do not live in Kansas City, Raytown, or Independence if you don't like the cops breathing down your neck every ten seconds. Find some place a little outside the city limits for some breathing room. Watch out for HOA's in the burbs, too. KC and the surrounding area is noisy, cramped, not very peaceful. That being said, the car scene is active somewhat, if you get hooked up with the right crowd. Grim (HAMBer) has been playing host to a Sunday morning get together at Grinders in mid-town. I think it's once a month. Weren't you in school when I bought that flathead V8 from you? r
Ha no shit about the cops. I had my dailey parked in the driveway a couple of days ago and the cop almost came to a complete stop in front of my house.
hope you have enjoy life here. i moved south of everything cause i didnt want to deal with a lot of BS. lots of great food and shows to go to. the river run is a great show. http://www.olmarais.com/
i agree ottawa river run is a great show , and greaserama and the show last weekend in the West Bottoms was fantastic , check out my pictures at the link below http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,101573.0.html
Wow Tim, the numbers show you've been on the HAMB longer than Porknbeaner! You're definitely an old school HAMBer! Hope the local guys give you some good advice.... Good luck with your move.....
Greaserama is one of my favorites of the year. Sounds like you'll be in town by then, Labor Day Weekend, don't miss it! http://lospunkrods.com/greaserama-2013 Definitely a good venue to meet a lot of good people in the KC scene..
yup here are my pictures from greaserama last year also a fantastic show http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,94753.0.html
out of the 50? haha if so I have thought about that two or three times the last month or two trying to remember what I did with it. Was a long time ago haha. We are just trying to rent a place for the time being as I'm going to be way to anal about buying something to be doing it from 4 plus hours away. Honestly if getting some one to return a message about renting is this hard I can't even imagine trying to buy something from this distance. I had seen Grim post about the Grinders meet up and will be sure to make it out to one as soon as I can get away with
There is a cruise in Independence every Saturday night next to Buffalo Wild Wings off of I70 and Blue Parkway. Lots and lots of great places to eat all over the metro area also. All in all this a pretty good place to be.
Oh I get it haha I'm working on a sleeve of a tornado sucking up a 27 roadster on 32 rails right now. It's been fun
Whatever you do stay out of the Johnson County(KS) suburbs if you intend to do much welding, fabrication or painting or have stuff out of the garage. The HOAs and the city codes people in places like Overland Park are anti-hotrod and anti-DIY, they will bust you over trivial stuff as often as possible. The Missouri cops are dicks as far as vehicle code and cruising issues, but they don't bother you over a couple of tires on the side of the house once in a while or stuff like that. You see a lot of old cars on the road in Independence, Blue Spgs, areas like that but OP is completely bereft of old cars. I turned down a very good job offer with Yellow Roadway because to be able to work on stuff I would have had to have a 30-45 minute commute. FAR south Johnson County might be OK, or parts of Wyandotte, if you don't mind super high property tax.
Tim, I live in Lee's Summit, right off Noland Road. Holler if you need some more specific info. Tom thand@kc.rr.com
Awesome I'll keep that in mind right now all we need is a house to rent. Any of you out in HAMB land got anything for rent? Send me a pm if you like
Welcome. Ive been in KC for 10+ years now and never run out of cars or food; only time. Check out knuckleheads, great bands and venue. Speaking of bands, find where the rumblejetts are playing and you are bound to find hotrods. Im in the northland, look me up any time.
Also; KC Royals take time to enjoy a ball game, Steak & Shake has great shakes, Worlds Of Fun, Dixon's chili parlor in Independence (President Truman use to eat there), 30th Annual Stanberry Father's Day Car Show. The 30th Annual Father's Day Fun Run Car Show is set for June 16th, 2013. We look forward to seeing you there!stanberryjcclub.org - - You are lucky to be moving there - ENJOY!
plenty happening here in independence.great cars great people food is first class.you got to check out sticks and stones in sugar creek (killer cool place) when you get settled in. the jackson drive show just keeps getting bigger usually 300-350 cars on saturday nights live band and good times to many things to list them all.I am sure you wont be bored.hope to see you at one of the gathering sometime.
This must have been what was going on last Saturday. Went to Joe's Crab Shack and saw a bunch of cars running around. I need to check this out. Any more info on it? Thanks, Dean
If you are a baseball fan there is an independent league team, the T-Bones ans they are worth seeing as well. Much better ball park experience than the K in my opinion.
shoot. down here in gardner we do what we want. I aint got not HOA's. good people don't bother me none. we do have really high city tax and then of course Johnson county tax is always bad. but compared to the other parts of the metro I wouldn't live anywhere else. I still don't know where everything is ( I don't leave my bubble much) so I think it would be a long commute for the OP. but I love it down here.
no. Im not sure how I have I missed it but I don't remember any 57 chev's. I will be on the look out for sure. got any pics? I know there is one guy that had a hamb alliance tag on his dash. stoped by his place and he had like 6 hamb friendly cars. but there is some decent old tin down here. I am also hoping to make it to grinders one of these sundays.
