Couldn't resist this one for our shop Man Made Legends. 1955 Chevy fire truck converted to hauler. Has 11,000 orig miles and a new 6.2L diesel. Looks great with the rods on it. Needs a little paint on the doors and a sign painter to put the logos on it but gets a ton of looks.
You've let the proverbial cat out of the bag! Old fire department apparatus is usually very low miles, extremely well maintained, and priced CHEAP. You've done exactly what I've been contemplating and dreaming of. Just curious on how much the cost of steel was to built the ramp and bed (approximate); it was probably more than the original purchase price I would think. Is the engine original, and if so, what engine is in the truck? How does it handle overall? Butch/56sedandelivery.
It's got a crate 6.2L diesel in it. When I bought it had the main ramp/boxes underneath. Also has 10000lb winch so works great. We build a bit longer ramps so we can get the very low cars on it without dragging. As for driving its as easy as my old C10. I was amazed really. If you find one buy it. Gets 22 mpg as well which is better than my explorer
Old fire trucks definately the way to go! Have a 56 Dodge 1 1/2 ton I picked up for a ramp truck project. Was used for rural standby for brush and wheatland fire protection. Has the little Dodge poly motor and only 3800 mi's. Solid as a rock and runs drives like a new 56 truck did. Paid $600 at auction. Removed the tanks and pump unit and sold them to a developer for $600. Free truck!
I want to do that with a cutaway van camper - knock the camper off and cut the back off another van body to cap the back of the cab off. Then put a car hauler body on it.
Nice hauler. It is a great ***et for your business needs to be able to haul cars around. Looks the part for a hot rod shop truck.
I love this Hauler. I've always wanted one. I found a truck and Trailer combo in a field in Alabama. I had to p*** it up. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Outstanding score there. Sharp looking, too.A local gl*** shop has a panel truck done in a similar red/beige 2 tone, logos and painted grille & bumper. Really stands out.
