Anyone adapted their alternator/generator bracket to work with or bolt onto their Hurst-style engine mount? I'm thinking of mounting my alternator below the crossmember, since I have the room, anyone else done this? Thanks, Aaron
Might help if we knew what engine you are working with ? I saw this yesterday but didn't have anything to say Lots if smart cookies around here who can tell alot from pictures . There are some that dont read but enjoy the pics too
Sorry, here are some pictures. It's a 55 265. I think there's room for an alternator under the bracket on the driver's side. Thanks, Aaron
Did a similar thing with Hurst mounts on an Olds engine for an A/C compressor. Don't have a very good picture of it though.
I've been wondering he same thing. I want to get everything down low but a hurst style would make it difficult. Especially what the engine sits real low in the ch***is
The lower mount you are talking about, I had one on my 5 window years ago with a small block as well. I sits right where your raised right hand frame mount rises off the rail. Mine was a simple C shaped, one piece bracket that bolted to the two lower block cast threads supplied by Chevy (which your engine mount appears to be using as well). Grab a one wire alt, standard GM, and run a long test bolt on the bottom side with a tube spacer that will get you directly in line with the WP pulley. Once you have that line of fire correct with the water pump and crank pulley, cut the pipe to length for proper spacer and then you will have a loose Nelly on the top end that is in line with the belt; and all you need to do from this point is modify one of those cheap Sixties top slotted brackets (Slea-bay has them for 8 bucks chrome). Once you get that top bracket in line with 2 to 3 inches of travel for V belt tension, run a 3/8 hole through the end and connect it with one of the two WP bolts for the top side of the alt support and adjustment. BTW, you can pick up great Gates belts (any length) at Tractor supply for like 8 to 12 bucks, They actually have so many bins that carry every belt in every inch (from 10 inches to over 100). Pork
Thought I'd dig this up to show what I ended up doing Aaron Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
