C-6 Shift Points

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Beep, May 26, 2013.

  1. I finally got my Ranchero back running. The 351w with C-6 runs great. However, the shift point on the transmission is way too high. How do I adjust these to lower speeds. Currently it won't shift from 1 to 2 until about 35 mph and then frpm 2 to 3 until about 45.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

You should be able to adjust the shift modulator. It is a canister looking device with a vacuum hose attached. If you pull the hose off there should be a small screw inside the tube where the hose goes. Honestly it has been so long since I adjusted one of these I forget which way to turn to bring your shifts in earlier. But adjust it one way and if it's worse go the other way. ;)

Be sure you have a good vacuum signal. If it is adjustable CCW will lower shift points.

With shift points that high your modulator is not working. Check vacuum and see if you have fluid in the modulator, might be a leaking in the modulator.

Yep, what they said! Check the vacuum line first.

"IF" the modulator is adjustable, screw it out for earlier shifts and in for delayed shifts. rough rule of thumb for a starting point is to have the head of the adjustment screw flush with the end of the vac hose fitting.:D:D:D

Make sure that the modulator is connected to manifold vacuum.

If you have the kickdown rod connected, disconnect it. It might be hanging in the kickdown position.
