Here is one more time Andy from austria / europe. I plan my next US vacation trip for this year. End of august, I will follow the "Route 66". I will start in Chicago and will drive to Santa Monica CA.

I think there are many H.A.M.B. Members on this way. If anyone have time and will meet me up on this way - I will be happy to meet you. I think the best way to travel is to meet locals. They have a lot information about good bars, restaurants, museums, drag races, ...

I think, I will arrive saturday 24th august in chicago and deperature on friday 20th september in san francisco.

    -- 2 - 3 weeks "Route 66"
-- a few days meet friends in phoenix
-- rest of the time between l.a. and san francisco

The people how don´t know me, I will introduce myself.
    My name is Andy.
    31 years old.
My native language is german, my second language english.
    I have now 3 cars ...
    - 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak Coupe
    - 1958 Chevy Biscayne Kustom
    - 1959 Chevy Nomad
love to travel in the US and find new friends.

I used to live on Route 66 about twenty miles east of Kingman AZ and you will love the trip. Take your time, keep some cash tucked in your shoe and enjoy the ride.

It is on my Bucket list, when leaving the Windy city (Chicago) stop at the museum, it will kick things off right. My opinion is, or input is only, to bad you couldn't have put it off 1 more month. Your gonna be cruising in the hottest temps..... But hey, maybe its good.

When I do it, I am gonna plan it late March

  10. Thank you for your informations.
I am also interest in drag races, nascar, baseball in this time. All informations what I can get - I am happy.

You need to stop by the "Donut Derelicts" car show in Huntington Beach, CA. every Saturday morning from 5:30-8:30am at Adams & Magnolia. About 250 cars and trucks from every decade. It's the best FREE car show on the West coast.

I'm far from on your route, but have driven the 'Mother Road' many times over the last 35 years.
You will enjoy the trip, and meet lots of friendly folks along the way. Unfortunately, many of the old landmarks are gone, due to vandalism and have fallen into disrepair.

Stay at the Blue Swallow in Tu***cari NM...really nice couple own it and they have some nice clean rooms. He has two older Pontiacs..that are pretty cool too. Tu***cari actually has some cool older building on Route 66. We also stayed in the El Rancho in Gallup NM...that building has some cool history. Went to the Art Deco Conoco station in Shamrock TX and 3 days before they had a hail storm and it wiped out the Neon...this was around May 11th :(. I really like NEON...I was disappointed. There was bits of Neon everywhere on the ground..it was sad. Maybe they will have it fixed by the time you go thru there.

  21. thanks for the infos ... the hotels looks fine. Also the art deco gas station.
This are the information what I like :)

Since your starting in Chicago there are many great museums

my favorite is The Museum of Science & Industry http://www.msichicago.org/

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Museum_of_Science_and_Industry_(Chicago)

Being a Chicago native i went there a lot
    always something new going on
it has hands on displays, a coal mine you take a elevator to the bottom
get into mining cars that go through the mine
all and all it's pretty cool place to go

On display the captured U-505 German U-boat http://www.msichicago.org/whats-here/exhibits/u-505/

The Burlington Zephyr First Diesel Streamliner http://www.msichicago.org/whats-here/exhibits/pioneer-zephyr/

World War II airplanes are hanging from the ceiling
    http://www.msichicago.org/visit-the-museum/museum-info/
there's a huge train layout on the main floor it can also be viewed from above http://www.msichicago.org/whats-here/exhibits/the-great-train-story/the-exhibit/

Have a Great Trip on 66

While you are in San Francisco call Roy Brizio's shop in South S.F. (10 min drive)
tell them you are here from Europe and would love to stop by. They are usually pretty accomodating.

stay at the Wigwam hotel in Holbrook AZ. We did it a few years ago on the bikes, Amarillo to Santa Monica CA.

Also look at staying at Hotel California. Both those two were the best (best being coolest) of the trip!

  27. Thanks for the infos?
There any car meetings, nascar races, baseball games, football games on the way?
    Any good kustom garages?
    Tiki bars?
    Best STEAK on the way?
    Rodeo?

    Regards
    Andy

cozy dog in springfield ill is a good place to stop and I believe in Kansas on rt 66 you will find the 4 sisters garage with what she claims is the original mater the tow truck. right across the street you can park in front of a scene from cars the movie. Oklahoma has a bunch of things to do

  29. You drive right by it...
Be sure to see the round barn and Pops Restaurant in Arcadia, OK. Pops is recent "high modern" architecture with a RT. 66 theme - You drive right by it on the two lane road and the food is good.
