At last got myself a 40 standard coupe. As far as i gather it was built in canada for south africa,it was shipped in from s africa and registered in united kingdom in 1991,it was used for 2 yrs and laid up in a barn for 17 yrs now its back on the road.My question is how many rhd coupes did they produce in 1940 cheers fred
some manufacturers sent out cars in kit form Fred. Known as CKD cars, complete knock down. Basically a rolling ch***is and anyone could put a coupe, sedan or a truck body on. Car companies were getting hit with big taxes for import/export so they got round them as kits. Has it got a ch***is number or anything on the bulkhead? A small plaque anywhere?
We got quite a few 39 coupes (more Deluxes than Standards)here in NZ but hardly any 40s (Deluxe or Standard.) Probably due to the war. Of course I stand to be corrected as I wasn't even a *****le in my Dad's eye at that point...
well thanks everybody im just goin to drive the wheels off it,its a terrific car and i love it cheers fred
