My wife's not happy but couldn't pass it up! Today I picked up this 53 chevy 1/2 ton short bed. Its got the original 216, 3-speed on column. Guy had it running bout a year ago & recently put a fresh rebuilt carb in it. Had it towed home, put a new 6v battery in it, new fuel filter, hooked up the choke, couple shots of starting fluid & she fired right up! Drove it around the block, brakes pulsate pretty bad but at $1300 I almost feel like I stole it.....almost;). Red, white and blue paint is pretty ugly but kinda fits my Memorial Day purchase. Plans are to lower 2-3 inches, some www tires, chrome grill & bumpers, & stain blue paint...photoshop anyone? Also, best place for drop axles? Thanx to our military; past, present & future. Happy Memorial Day everyone!

Nice score and especially for the cost. That is at least a $2500 buy in my area.

Here too. Think he just wanted it outta the garage and to free up some $ for some home projects so he was gonna take first decent offer. I was just lucky to be 1st one there with cash. His phone was ringing off the hook when I was picking it up. Plus he had an OT sports car that kept his attention more.

    That's not a 216, looks like a late 50's 235.

Man that's a great find with a great price too! At least $2500 or higher in my area too. Have fun with that truck!

See thats what I thought just looking at the valve cover. But the guy swears its a 216 and the books he had say the 235's came in 3/4 and one tons. I'll have to check numbers on the motor. It has the closed driveline so I don't think its late 50's.

Nice project looks like it's pretty clean nice find.

  13. for sure not a 216 , short side cover over the pushrods, four rocker cover bolts around the rim not 2 thru the top etc. , trans from 216 will bolt up to most inline 6 engines and the closed or torque tube rear end mates to that origonial , sooo.... lol

looks like a great platform , keep us posted , more pics are always good :)
