There a few people out there who simply amaze me. A guy in New Jersey named Frank Todd is one of them. Frank re-builds old parts, he calls it "mechanical component rebuilding" on his card, but in reality, he's a magician with old parts. My first experience with him, after hearing stories about the guy for years, was having my flathead fuel pump re-built. I dropped it off on a Monday, and had it in my hands a few days later. It looked better than new and worked just as well. I've seen carbs he's re-done and they almost look too good to put on, often times better than everything else surrounding them. If you bring him something common, say a small block chevy water pump, he'll hand it back to you and give you directions to the nearest Pep Boys. I once asked if he had intake gaskets for a small block and he did the same...shook his head as if I had insulted his intelligence. He only handles the hard to find stuff...the unusual..the obsolete. Most times you'll find him in his shop, surrounded by shelves of parts, stuff everywhere. By looking around you would swear there was no way he could find anything, yet, when asked he can go right to anything you need. He sits at his work table/ desk with small screws and pieces of carbs ****tered all over the place. Yet, the finished part is amazing to look at. And it works. I just came in from the garage after putting on a Weber carb he re-built. Didn't have to touch a thing on it, just a little idle tweak was all. I just had to p*** along information in case you've never heard of him. For those that do, i'm not telling you anything new.. Frank is a great guy. I bought a load of 57 Ford front end parts from him years ago, was great to do business with. Any time I'm looking for obsolete parts, hes my first call.
