hello I'm looking to install a modern disc brake rear end in my 36 Ford Roadster i looked at a 2007 Mustang but its 6 foot wide and I need 5.5 ft to work any ideas on what will work please ?thankyou
Check your width again. '36 rear ends are more like 57"axle face to axle face. I used a rear end from a Ford Explorer and cut down the long side of the housing to use another short side axle. (about 3") Not a bad job to do, and cost effective. There are a lot of those 8.8's out there with a good range of gear ratios. They have disc brakes, finer splines, and the rotors have an internal drum for the e-brake.
Your dimensions are not correct for a 35-40 Ford chassis. The best disc brake rear end with disc brakes that is 57/8 inches flange to flange is the Lincoln Versaille. The early Bronco and SW rear ends from 57 SW work perfect in your car but are drum brakes. Do a search on this site and there are several posts listing the ideal rear ends for your car. As mentioned above, there are also several disc brake rear ends the proper width on some Mustangs, Explorers, etc. If you are a bucks up guy buy a new one from Currie. $$$$ Good luck.
