Found a running driving model a coupe near me its a 31 its in primer with lots of bondo but it dones run with the original banger been converted to 12v. very rough around the edges but a decent car i could get in and be proud of after a few weeks of work. i allready sold my harley and ill be posting stuff on here for sale on here too i want to make a good offer i dont want to steal it so to say it was an older gentlemans who p***ed away and his daughter decided to sell it. i was thinking of offering around 4-4500 because it will need completely gone thru. is this to low she said something about 7k but that seems a little high based on condition

The world is not Walmart with fixed prices on every item. Even at Walmart you can get prices changed due to cir***stances. The value of ANYTHING is determined by cir***stance. If you have an item that you think it worth $100 but you try and try and no one will give you $100 but everyone offers $50, then maybe its only worth $50. Same thing if you have a $100 item but the buyer offers $900 (yes people do this, sometimes so they can brag about how much it cost)
An old Model A is worth exactly as much as the buyer and seller agree on and that changes constantly. Some woman might want that junk out of her yard for free and you sell it for $2500, so whats it worth? One minute its worth nothing then its worth $2500. and the guy you sell it to may find someone who gives $6500. So whats it worth???

Answer: The value at the instant that you make the deal is whatever the buyer and seller agree on, Nothing Else.

Feel her out on how firm she is on 7k. If I have something for 7k and you lowball me a 4k offer, we are done talking. Even if you have the 7k in your pocket, we are done.

Without detailed pics of the car, any guesses on here would be "pulled them out of their *** guesses".

I can try to get pics dont really like to take pics of cars that arent mine usually. I askedher a price and it took her a minute and she said like 7k or make me an offer she even said shes not real sure what its worth and really neither do i but id be comfortable at 5k max id like to get it for 4-4500 but im willing to go up higher im just not trying to rip her off or upset anyone. i guess its one of those things its worth what someones willing to pay.

Darned near impossible to determine the "going" price without pics and more info on the car, and every deal is different. But if you show respect...and it sounds like you have no problem there...I'm sure you'll probably be able to work something out near what you can or are willing to pay. Let her know that you're not trying to pressure her too much, just talking you know, and you might get better results. Keep it friendly, and realize that there's always the possibility that you won't be able to find a price good for both of you. You might even say that to her. Let her know that it's ok regardless...and that'll take some pressure off for both you and her. I believe that the mood of the experience is almost or even more important than the bottom line. If you and her both walk away smiling, you've done great.

Without actually seeing the car, and going just on your description, and what her initial asking price was, I'd venture a guess that $4,500 might be too low. You might get it for $5,000...but unless it's pretty rough, even that might be a bit low for a coupe. Funny how just $500 can make a difference. I bet you get it for $5,500.

    Good luck.

Btw. if it helps at all, I was looking at an original 2dr Model A a friend of mine had for sale. It was pretty solid and it was complete, but the interior was a old and rough. It ran, but it needed mechanical work...needed "going through" as you say. He wanted $5,500 and I thought that was a pretty fair price. Of course, coupes usually go for more than sedans. She's probably closer to a fair price at $7,000 but you might get it for less.

just bought an older restored 31 coupe that runs and drives, but far from roadworthy for $6800.00. had stock motor with minimal rust on lower cowls and deck lid not to dinged up.

Have the discussion that you are having here, but with her. You might actually get somewhere with her discussing why you think its worth 4,500.
Discussion is good, be polite and she can only say no........
    or YES!

All of us car guys tend to think our "STUFF" is worth a lot,, unfortunately, we expell that to our loved ones. If death, or divorce rears its ugly head, it can really back fire on us.. I remember, years ago, I stated in mixed company, I would not sell my forty sedan for less than $60,000.00. In court she, said my 40 was worth more than $60,000. The judge almost went for it, but I knew he had a Corvette, I said "yer Honor, If you had a Corvette you didn't want to sell, would you put a high value on it ?" He said there isn't a '40 worth more than $10,000. I was lucky.
Ask her what is the very least she will take for it,, Its worth what two parties can agree on.. If she spits a price , either meet it or move on... Lots Model A's out there, gonna be more.. they can't all fit in collections.. And we who like them are gettin' fewer and fewer...I mean older and older.....
