Hello gentlemen, I was a ford line mechanic at a dealer for a few years back in the 80s. I am here to find people to converse with about cars and trucks. Currently, I have a 1978 Lincoln continental/MarkIII that I am trying to get together as our main car. It has a good body and interior and I just had a new ****** and engine (460) put in. It has some bugs...we put a 750cfm edelbrock carb and manifold to replace the stock ford intake/carb. When doing so most of the anti-smog plumbing was removed. Now with only 250 miles on it, it has apparently burned some valves (have not torn it down yet). The exhaust manifold was running white, as in a lot of heat? My thoughts are that the lean running that caused the valves to burn was caused by plumbing the PVC valve directly into the carb base. What do you think? To much air from the crankcase causing too lean fuel/air? Wrong primary jets? ( I don't know what jets are in the carb yet) Once I get this ironed out, I am getting dual exhaust and the getting the air conditioner updated. Anyhow, it is good to be here and I hope for a long lasting involvement with like minded fellows. Jim
Jim, You might want to read the sticky at the top of the page and do a little surfing of this site before you post again. Your ride is definitely off topic and you will get flamed. Good luck and welcome from Michigan.
Hello Jim Yeah, sorry to say that your Lincoln is way off topic for this website. As suggested above, spend a bit of time reading what it's all about. There MUST be other websites that cater to your make, model and year vehicle. Otherwise, you'll be flamed and worse. Best wishes.
