52 mainline flathead "Plain Jane" decided to take the slow approach this winter. I figure that if i can get the roof done this year it will give me the ambition to maybe do the rest of the car next year ( or maybe more of the car). Next will be more sanding and possibly lace??? and my helper ever so watchful sleeping in the 78 Pacer....
good luck with her she seems to be in good shape ! keep us updated with your progress! Merry xmas and happy new years. PS Lacing the top will look cool old school
Seen the before, looking forward to the after. Enjoy yourself and have a great festive season while you're at it. Cheers.
finished up the fine paint removal and i think it looks good. I have been reading about my next step and i think i will be using phosphorous acid like navel jelly to neutarlize some surface rust before priming it. My kids want to do a lace pattern of white and maroon. My reply? "some people ask why-we say why not!"
finally found a piece of lace,. harder than i thought. going to prime soon and get moving. had to build a paint booth that took some time and beer,
learned a valuable lesson for the first time painter this weekend. Not too much paint and dont f*cking touch it. first i used to much paint and had a little run on my skirts. Got that fixed and then proceeded to touch it with my finger too soon. But practice makes perfect i guess. I sure dont mind fooling around with the skirts before i take on the roof. question- can metal flake be added to any auto paint? I have access to a gallon of red for free but want the flake effect. here is closer to what the roof will look like in my head
been doing alot of reading on flake and testing on the skirts. next thing you know the grill was off and the nose went in the tumbler for the day. spayed it and i think it came out good. i am not sure where this will all go but it sure will be mine and im enjoying the ride.
fooled with the headlight trim also. this thing might end up 10 different colors by the time i am through with it. but hey- i can always go back to cocaine and hookers.
cool job...get that helper off his a**!!!! good start to your project, really nice to see the progress... keep us posted
oh boy. Not much to update. I have been kind of side tracked ( who hasnt) helping a friend with a 53 Military jeep and 54 Hudson Hornet 2 dr Hollywood Coupe. And this came along- 1915 Model T Touring car. Kinda fell into it. Been after a brass car and a touring car for awhile. Cant believe i found both at a price i couldnt afford not to buy. It was all mechanically rebuilt in the early 60's and runs and drives awesome. Wont take much to get on the road. But dont worry my 52 Ford is next on the list. I did more testing for flake and lace and im ready to paint!! BE GOOD- Marty
well life got inthe way a bit just like it does for everyone once in awhile. I had to deal with putting my faithful dog down. I did get the roof at least primed and painted but no lace yet before the fateful last drive day. RIP Kandi-- you small headed samich eating hot dog beggin kid lickin old car ridin dog.
hey guess what i did? probably one of the smartest things i have done in years. I paid the "man" to put the 2" glass pack and bend all new pipe from the header to the tail pipe. Glasspack sounds perfect and the whole gig cost $148 installed at Monro Muffler. I certainly would spent more than that on beer and surly would have butchered that job. I am 0 for about 4 on exhaust systems. It was a perfect day
Well done! This may sound crazy, but can I see a pic of the Pacer you first mentioned? I actually liked those cars when they came out.
Hey Now-- Pacers aint no crazy- in fact now there is the largest private collection of Pacers in the Tri Monroe countie area near Rochester NY in the quiet hamlet of Egypt. The yellow one is a new 31K mile aquisition. Its like taking your recliner for a drive.
Coolest part? Run great very cheap to buy and eligible for classic car insurance. Just can't afford NOT to buy em!!
