I am going from kansas city MO to laughlin NV to pickup a car I bought and was planing on coming back old route 66, What is there to see...
if your into studebakers, Vern Ediger is the man to visit. his all-stude salvage yard is a sight to see. he is located in Halstead kansas. http://papasstudebaker.com
Lots of old 66 is dissapearing as we put off seeing such great things usually...I did the entire drive out as far as Williams Arizona a few years ago aand some of the things I got to see were later gone such as Pops diner in Oklahoma, burnt to the ground since.... A lot of the old stuff is still off the main road to look at tho so I do recommend looking at every opportunity you can exit the new road.
Since you're going west theres all kinds of stuff to see. If you were headed east I would say nothing.
I posted photos of some junk we saw on a trip out west at http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=799746&page=4 There is a junk store on old 66 east of Kingman called Hackberry that has a lot of cool old cars and signs, etc.
