My buddy sent me pics of this two tone rodded truck with a weird engine.

At first I thought the valve covers looked like 348/409 and the motor was back to back (seen this before with SBC and Buick V-6's in a rod)

But I googled it and it wasn't some made up BS someone put on a poster at a show,it was a real engine!!!

Anyway here's some pics including the rodded GMC truck

It's a GMC V12. Very cool engines, used in some heavy duty trucks until people figured out that they had fuel efficiency comparable to an airliner.

Basically its 2 of their 351 V6s bolted together; the heads are the same. I think they only make about 250-300hp but a lot of torque. They're from the early 60s.

Yeah, max RPMs are something like 2400. Not the best suited for hotrodding.

I've always wanted one of those. I should have picked one up before they got so expensive.

i have one, i picked it up years ago for a "chitty, chitty" project. this motor is HEAVY. i have a pretty stout old farm tractor with a loader that i can fill the 3/4 yard bucket with stone and move around without a problem. i had to put the chain over the back of the bucket to even lift the engine but once i lifted it the power steering did not work.
cool factor will make it worth the effort...unless i sell it.

There are also videos on youtube of these monsters. I wonder how they do if you were pulling trucks back to back. Too much weight for you to push, but too much for your compe***or to pull. Hmm...Not practical, even for most hot rods, but very cool.

But you can gear it to work. Or pull trees out of the ground.

    Block weighed 1400 lbs!?

    Wow, 630 lb's torque at 1600 rpm, that's hilarious....damn cool.

  11. The motor it's based on was originally a diesel design, converted to gas for some reason, even the V6 version is a low RPM torque monster. Thirsty, too, 10 MPG no matter what with the V6 in a pickup.

If I needed to pull houses off their foundations, I'd run the V12 in something -

Dad said his V6 GMC was a pulling machine. And it must have been for a Ford guy to admit that.

I've seen and heard the V6 GMC run... throaty. And my mind was blown too when my dad told me what it was. I thought it was a weird v8 at first.
