Another Model A on the road

I have been working on this with my dad for about 3 years now. It is the first hot rod either of us has built. I bought this as an abandoned project with 2 previous owners. It was somewhat of a rolling chassis and a skeleton of a body with 2 very rough doors when I got it. Besides machine work and balancing the rotating assembly we did all the work ourselves and fabbed a lot of the parts instead of buying them. It was all a learning experience as we went but I can look at a car now and really appreciate what it takes to get one on the road.

Chassis is a TCI with parallel 4 bar in front and back and zed in the back. The front is a transverse leaf spring with panhard bar, Superbell dropped axle, metric disc brakes and a vega box with cross steering. Rear is a 9 ford, 4.10 gears, 11 drum brakes, coliovers, J bar and sway bar. Wheels are Coker smoothie 15x5 and 15x8 and tires are BFG Silvertown 285/70R15 and BFG Traction T/A 195/60R15.

The body is 1928 steel body chopped 3 1/2. We made the floors, bulkhead behind the seat, lower firewall, decklid, rain gutters, filled top, welded visor to body, filled gas tank filler hole, chopped the doors and garnish pieces, chopped windshield and made the hood. Primer is Kustom Shop 2K high build primer and paint is TCP Restoration Shop Shoreline Beige single stage urethane. This is the first car I have ever painted.

The engine is a 1 pc. rear main seal 1987 SBC block with SCAT 3.75 crank, 6.0 rods, Clevite bearings and Mahle forged 26cc dished pistons 1.5/1.5/3.0 rings with Napier second ring. The cylinders heads are EQ 200cc runner 64cc chamber 2.02 intake and 1.6 exhaust. The block was decked to 9.010 and with a 0.030 Cometic gasket compression ratio is 9.0:1. Intake manifold is Edelbrock RPM Air Gap, carburetor is 4160 Holley and distributor is MSD. Cam is Comp XE268H (224deg/230deg @ 0.050, 110 LSA, 106 CL, 0.477/0.480 w/ 1.5 rockers) and rockers are Comp High Energy Aluminum Roller Rockers. Breather is a modified oil bath with a K&N filter.

Wiring is a Rebel harness and most gauges are Stewart Warner. I installed an Innovate wideband AFR gauge to help with tuning. Transmission is a 700-R4 and convertor is TCI Saturday Night Special. Headers are modified Speedway Motors sprint car and mufflers are Porter.

Yeah I think most A's (28-29's at least) look better with A grille shell.

Thanks, it's often hard to achieve simplicity with a hot rod. You go to a car show or see a picture of something you want to incorporate and in the end it doesn't all look like it belongs together. With simplicity though you often achieve great functionality. Myself as an engineer often wanted to over complicate things but my dad who has worked in factory most of his life balances that out.

Very nice, reminds of the build on mine! Just a bit of advice, I had the same rear bars and frame mounts that your using, after about 300 miles they started to twist. Got so bad the welds started cracking. Has to remake them so that the new mounts captured the rod ends and gave it proper sheer strength. Many burn-outs later still holding up!
