Anyone know of a good source for parts to rebuild my 54 front end? Disc brake conversion without a mustang 2 conversion would be bonus! Chev's of the 40's has it all and I was about to click order when I noticed that instead of the complete brake conversion kit, they had the parts to convert without buying the rotors and calipers. It didn't say what rotors and calipers fit so I called them. They said there is a list of what fits that comes with the kit. I asked if I had to buy the kit to find out if my parts car would have the parts that work with it and the gal told me yes I do have to buy it first. Needless to say with customer support like that I abandoned the entire order. Other options I've found ended up having lots of bad reviews. I don't want mustang II or air bags, all I want is my stock front end completely rebuilt and disc brakes if it's not too much h***le.
Others companies do the same thing. We used to buy disc brackets and then order what they said use from the local warehouse.
if they would have told me what fits the plate,I would have bought their complete set up the came with rotors, bearings, calipers and the whole nine yards if it didn't work with my parts car. I won't do business with someone who says that I have to spend money to find out if their parts work with what I have. it seems like customer service has completely disappeared since so many businesses have gone internet-based.
I ended up going to rock auto and ordering the kingpin set, bearings, shocks and the stuff to go through the stock brakes. I'll do some up grading including disc brakes later.
I'd like to see pics when u do the disk break upgrade to the stock front end and the parts you used to convert it. I'm sure it will be useful to me as well as others in the forum. I plan on lowering my 54 too but I want to keep stock as much as possible. Cut springs and modifying stock parts. I'm trying to keep era specific if I can.
If you want disk conversion use Braketech solutions. All plug and play. Works well and easy to do Posted using the Full Kustom H.A.M.B. App!
I wish I would have seen the Braketech solutions site before I ordered my stuff. Fairly good prices for everything you need except the master cylinder in one kit. For now I am going to go with stock front brakes rebuilt. I got tired of ****py service from everywhere I contacted and I want to get my car on the road. I can upgrade the brakes later. On a brighter note about Chevy's of the 40's, they did send me a $25 discount certificate for the "less than acceptable customer service". I'm not sure if I will end up ordering anything from them but at least they did try and make it right. 54rat210, I intend to take quite a few pictures as I do all the work to the car. When I actually have something done, I may post a build thread. Right now it's just my 54 minus it's rear end, a parts car that will donate most of the drivetrain and several box's of parts.
