I recently became the owner of a 32 ford sedan left to me by my father in law in his will. Yes, he was extremely generous and I would trade the car to have him back, but thats another story. The car has a clean ohio ***le in his name and my sister in law has power of attorney and we have the will that specificly states the car goes to me. What is the correct process here? Does sister in law sign ***le as power of attorney, get it notorized and I take that to BMV like normal transfer? My wife called BMV and they said I need to go through probate court. My sister in law has other paperwork she found online from ohio BMV that states she can sign over the ***le. The other question is what do I put on the line where it states to list the selling price? BTW I really dont like dealing with the BMV and want to have everything correct when I go so I can get the car on the road and enjoy it the way he wanted me too.

Your sister in law signs the ***le to you. She signs it ---------,executor of estate of ---------. You then take it to BMV, put in gift as the price.Transfer it to your name. There may or may not be taxes involved. I am NOT an attorney, but have done this several times before.

Take your sister in law with you to the dmv.she has power of attorney to sign the ***le.
That should be all you need.
As for the price, state that it is a family gift(no tax)
The dmv will put it in your name with a new ***le
Sorry on the loss of your father in law
its a sad loos anytime, but you have something special to remember him by

Thanks for the quick reply. I will try it this way and let you know how it goes. My sister in law picked up the ***le from me today to sign it and get it notorized and I should have it back by the weekend.

thanks 48ford, I plan to keep the car how he left it and remember him everytime I drive it. I truley understand how important it was to him that the car went to me and I wil care for the car the way he did. I have been taking his grandkids (my daughter and 2 nephews) for rides just like he liked to do. My wife tears up just thinking about him in that car.
