I sell, fix and install vintage locks and builders hardware. If anyone needs a mortice lock, or a glass doorknob, I'm practically swimming in them. And unlike so many antique shops that may have an old lock or two I actually know how they work and can rebuild them, and have been know to correct 100 year old design flaws.

  8. Ok. I too have been resisting the urge to add to this monster of a post... but, I must. cause it's fun and interesting to hear what the hippies have to say... when I say...

Me too! Except I teach Physics Honors and Env. Science at Cupertino High School, and the JV field hockey team I coach has only scored one goal in 10 games.

  16. ok that's it, just lost my job on 9/30 (when i've been going through an abscess tooth....one side of my face looked like balloon......nice). the main tech wanted more $$$ so the only way (in the owners mind) was to off me and get someone cheaper. the funny part is he has way less experience (alignment and brake guy only) so now the main guy has to do way more work and also teach the new guy. i was doing electrical, a/c, driveablity, plus regular maintance (timing belts, pumps......). the only thing that sucks for me is i had keys to the shop and a spot for my car (long nights working on the '36), so now it's back to my small garage to get it done. i think i'm done with working at regular repair shops, done with other peoples egos, done with shitty shops trying to screw the customers. i'm easy to get along with, not mr. know it all (we're ALWAYS learning new things) and helpful (my knowledge is your knowledge....a shop should be a team). if i'm going to get paid poorly (compaired to dealer techs) i want it to be for something i love. with that said i'm going to look for work in "vintage" car repair shops (restoration or maintanace).......not enough fab skills to do hot rods profesionally. i'll start at the bottom if i have to, a few years ago one shop i was at let me run a small biz at night and weekends (out of the bays). i had a pretty good following of customers (15 or so) of vintage/custom/hot rod cars just for repairs and small fab work (was a gas station and it got closed down by texaco). i still have a few left that i had to work on the side (none of the other shops wanted to touch cars that old for any price).

    sorry for the o/t rant
it's either the pain killers or the fever................whoo hoo

After 3 yrs in the Army I have been at the same company for 28 yrs. First as a laborer for 8 yrs, then after a bad evaluation, I told upper managemnt I could do a better job than my supervisor. *POOF* They made me a line supervisor, been there every since, wished I never said anything. Actually I hate this job, but the economy has not been very good since the late 70's so I tuff it out. It's been pretty ruff in the world for the younger people to hold on to jobs, because of cutbacks, so I guess I'm lucky to even have a job. Shoulda stayed in the Army, I'd be retired.

  19. Im not sure you could read this whole thread in a day. If you could...you too are looking for a job. :)

Im a Production Manager for a Sign and Store (POS) Fixture manufacturing company. I have 4 Supervisors who work under me and probably 25 guys under them. I just quit my job of 10 years with one of the largest Privately owned Contractors in Power and Communications (Henkels & McCoy, Inc.). I got bored and stuck in that current position and knew I would never move up further than what I was. Its amazing sometimes the higher you go in a company, the more stupid they are at the Top. Irony? maybe...but who knows right.

I love my new job now...its great being the boss. I only answer to one person, and thats the Vice President to the company....or maybe two....the President/owner too.

On the side: I am an Automobile Engineer, painter, fabricator.... I like to build Hot Rods. That pays for the toys. :)

  20. going on a interview for a small hot rod shop on monday.

"Worked on Sprint Car/Midget Racing team Prior to Yellow. That was when I had more of a flexable schedual. Nothing was more fun then spending summers in Indy and touring the country racing and having one hell of a good time..I always say Id love to write a book about the things that happend on the road, but what happens on the road stays on the road........... "

^ damn I'm jealous of that guy. I always wanted to go on the road with a sprint car team.

I can write (and debug- very important) code in any of the major languages- C++, Java, VB, Perl, SQL, and Javascript. Up until June, I was a Lead Programmer in the video game biz for 6+ years making PlayStation 2 and PC games.

During that time, I've lived in Chicago (Old Town area), San Diego (North County/Carlsbad), and Seattle (Eastside). After working at Atari for a year- I got tired of my wife, the corporate bullshit, and moving around. So I got divorced, quit, and moved!

Now I'm back home and Partner and Technical Director at a teeny little start up company of artists, photographers, geeks, inventors, and entrepreneurs. I have a background in advertising graphic design and web development too. We do a little bit of everything at the moment- which is a problem. We hope to get focused over the next year... I've got a video game idea that you guys are going to LOVE.
