I took the day off from chores and toddled up to the Central Washington State Fairgrounds for the American Truck Historical Society's National convention and truck show yesterday.

This is primarily made up of big and huge trucks but there were some nifty older pickups there too along with more Diamond Rio pickups than I thought existed.

  4. Dang. I knew I shoulda went. I looked at the website and got the idea it was all going to be a bunch of logging trucks from the fifties, etc. Ok, but not worth it to me to get out of work for.
Oh well, swap meet is next weekend- I'll save it for that. I'll be the fat guy towing twin 4 year old boys in a red wagon..

I saw this one headed back south on a flatbed trailer with some of his other trucks this morning as I was working on my truck out in the yard.
One very nice AD pickup that is stone stock.

There was no shortage of 50 something through 70 something logging trucks for sure but most of them were pretty nice. By the time I paid parking and the ticket to get in it cost me 19 bucks before I walked in the front door. I should have parked across the street for 5.00

This Diamond Reo was serial number 1 of it's model

When you know you are way cooler than all of the fancy dogs at the dogshow next door at the ball field.

You had to haul something on your hauler to be really with it.

The grill on this 1-1/2 ton was perfect.
1000 would take the truck home.

  8. That's a great display , thanks for posting . I think it is really nice to see so many of the trucks off the pavement in the soft grassy area and also not in regimented rows.

But I don't understand so many with the block in front of a wheel. I wonder what is so hard about fixing the hand brake , or even just parking it in 1st gear. The block looks , to me , like its an unfinished project.

It's great to see the variety of trucks , big and small and many with an interesting something on the deck too . :)

Dusty I think that blocking the front wheel on pavement was by choice by that particular group of truck owners. I noticed it when I was walking around but didn't think much about it at the time. A lot of truck owners took several trucks to the show with the extras riding on the trailer of the one they were driving. Some had come across the US and Canada to participate.

In case anybody cares about WW2 history; this crawler and it's grader/scraper it towed, are US Military WW2. The dozer is less than 4 feet wide, and 3 feet at the tracks...that is so it could fit through the side door of the US military version of the DC-3 airplane.

They used these to fly into small South Pacific island airstrips, to enlarge the runways for bigger planes.

Dozer made by Clark forklift co.

ATHS gives you the block and requests that it be used while displaying your truck at show. That's why you see so many.

562 pictures in the photobucket album http://s173.photobucket.com/user/mr... Historical Society 2013 Yakima?sort=4&page=1

I'm always a bit surprised that guys look at the photos in the thread but never seem to click on the photobucket album to see all of the photos. That is not only for this show but for the other shows that I have taken photos at.

Great pics, 48, thanks. Thought you might enjoy this pic. It was a 1954 Dodge tractor with a tank trailer when it was brand new. My grandfather and later my father owned it. That tractor had more miles on it than Carter had liver pills.

When you registered your truck they gave you that chunk of firewood to use as wheel chock. Big stack of them at registration table.

I never pass on the opportunity to see a ATHS show.
Perfectly restored trailer queens, wildly modified show trucks, well preseved trucks that are still used daily and rusty hulks of a truck are all welcome and appreciated.

My dad is a semi truck driver and he is headed north toward Pasco Washington. He just called me to tell me about all the beautiful old trucks coming down the freeway in Washington. He also said that one truck was on the back of a semi truck and trailer that was wrecked off the side of the road. He said the semi looked bad, but the antique truck may have survived. Here's hoping everyone's okay.

Thanks for sharing these photos. I saw this Diamond T on I-80 near Des Moines on May 28. I wish Icould have gotten a picture of it as it passed me. I wish I knew what was under the hood. It rolled by me at 75 mph and looked right at home on the freeway. Looks liek the bed has been shortened a little behind the rear fender?
