Stop by one of your local car dealerships and ask one of the service guys that do electrical work.

They are a scrounge-able junkyard part. I think it's a cool idea as well.

I know I've seen this topic on the HAMB before but it was a LONG time ago.

one company that makes such a device...and not too expensive (of course "expensive" is relative)

    http://www.wolstentech.com/products/timedelayrelay/timedelayrelay.php

there are many more places to get them or you can make your own.

do a google on 12 volt time delay

some sources and some discussions pages pop up and they talk about this very thing.

  10. I have source's for the delay relay. Just asking those of you, that have used one, and which one was used !

I pulled one out of a 87 Lincoln that was used donor for my 64 Falcon, looks just like the standard headlight relays if I remember right even fits the same socket
It was buried in the maze of wires under the dash. The wiring is different as you need to run two wires to the door switch instead of the single wire that is grounded when the door is opened. Not to traditional but kinda cool, only problem something is not quit right with the way it's wired as it will drain the battery after a week or so, JJ

The proper delay switch, when it shut off, it cuts all power, in the circuit.
When the door is opened, it re power's the relay, for the delay cycle.
Won't drain battery, with this wiring.

 High-end cars... that isn't what the 'H' means in H.A.M.B.

This is the beans right here! I was going to suggest a simple 555-timer circuit, but this will be far nicer and offer better 'features'. Modern cars use IC's and typically pulse-width modulation to accomplish this task; allowing one unit to serve multiple roles (BCM) and provide different features or settings depending upon application without actually changing the base hardware.

...Is this for the cool Divco in your avatar?

I get them from American AutoWire, dimming module #500777. Nice price too.

  19. American Autowire MODUBLOX Courtesy Light Module.
    $70 shipped eBAY

Allows courtesy lights to remain illuminated for a selected amount of time or until the ignition switch is turned on. At the end of the timed delay, courtesy lights will gradually fade to dark. An adjustment knob allows delay time selection from 0 to 60 seconds of delay. Includes mounting bracket and full detailed color instructions.

  24. Every time I borrow someone's late model vehicle for something and it has crap like this, it just annoys me. At the one swap meet I was pinned in so I used a buddy's truck to run to the store and I turn the thing off, the radio and crap stays on until I open the door. I thought something was wrong with it.

I went to the Ford dealer here, asked a parts counterman about the turn signal relay that 'chimes'.
('musical flasher'? I didn't dare ask for it like that!)

Deer-in-the-headlights look, asked the parts mgr., mgr. said he'd never heard of it... "GOT A PART#?

I recall late '70s into the '80s LTDs with this feature, parts mgr says he drives a Civic!

(Civic-minded cowboys don't 'ride for the brand'.)

Anybody remember this feature?? (was it a 'flasher' or a 'box'?)

I think, (but what do FNG know anyway), that the Autowire part number might be 510197, $ 58.65 at Summit. :)

Good catch, i looked it up in thier catalog and they say the 510197 replaces the 500777. My number is what was in my computor from inventory/purchases in the past, i didn't know the number has been superceded.
