I have a '50 Anglia with a warmed over 351W and FMX trans. My car was finished for me by some very generous friends as I was ill. I knew when I got the car there was too much fluid in the trans, so I took some out and when I used the kickdown I got revs but no acceleration. My friend said low fluid so I topped it up, and now I've got fluid coming out of somewhere when at higher speeds, 75 - 80 mph, and I've still got the kickdown problem  Anyone have any ideas where my problem is? The trans was rebuilt before being installed. I also have a Lokar kickdown cable and dipstick - anyone else have problems checking the fluid level with the Lokar dipstick?

Check your 2nd gear servo, it may be stuck and not actuating the band. If you have 2nd gear then it might be valve body related. Another thing to check is vacuum modulator, even though that sounds like a reach.

Thanks for that, looks like I'll have to get under drop the pan and get dirty!! Second gear works perfectly when I put the pedal to the metal off the line (ear to ear grin :)) takes off like a scalded cat as we say this side of the pond.
