What is the best way to mount an alternator on a small block chevy with a long water pump? No power steering or any other accessories. Would like to mount it on top instead of down low. Do those Mr. Gasket brackets work ok? Just the single long curved arm that bolts to the head and the water pump? Or do I need something else? Thanks.
The only issue I've run into with my stock style bracket is not all intakes have a bolt hole for the upper bracket. If you're running a stock, or mild intake it usually has the mounting hole anyway.
Just installed #215R & #215RO on my '56 with a sbc, nice bracket perfect fit with all required bolts and spacers. These come steel so you would have to have them plated. Greg
I used a bracket from Alan Grove that mounts the alternator just above the water pump intake and bolts to the long pump and cylinder head. It tucks the alternator in low and tight. Really good clearance and it was cheap. Plain steel so if you need chrome you will have to get it plated.
Not sure if this works with the long pump, besides, you need the base part too. I have this on my short pump set-up It also sticks out the side, which I don't mind cause that's the way they were in the 50's and 60's,but you can't run hood sides
That adjustment arm, with SUM-G4050 ($7) and SUM_G4051 ($7) will get you a good solid mount that's all chrome. Using them on my 327, and they are nice items for a cheap price.
