tried searching but didnt come up with much. im looking to start getting the needed panels to start repairing the body on my 48 tudor sedan. however whenever i search anything related to 48 fords all i come up with is sites related to ford truck repair panels, no car panels. are there any good places to get replacement/patch panels for the older ford cars, specificly the 1948's ??
I cringe every time I hear someone looking for patch panels. working on a 51 Chevrolet right now with a junk ems lower front quarter patch. luckily they did not use the part where the door jamb is, because the lines do not match the door jamb from the original car. but they did use the part that is part of the wheel opening. I will have to cut that out, and re-do the wheel opening so it matches the other side, also this garbage patch can not accept skirts. they also boogered welded in an ill fitting lower rear inside rocker patch from EMS that does not match what was removed at all. not even close. I will be cutting that out and either making it from flat sheet or cutting the part from an original car. I've had people bring me a car with a $100.00 patch to to install where I ended up just patching it with sheetmetal that cost me nothing. a lot of people like to buy these patches when they don't need one, then there are others where if you have the skills to make the garbage patch panel fit, you allso have the skills to make your own. that is the end of todays patch panel rant. I may have another for tomorrow.
so you took on some else's project that went bad, blamed ems and going to cut up a good car for patch panels, feel free to blame use for all your other problems , it is part of our service
I've used EMS panels to replace the lower cowl, tailpan, lower rear fenders, and the entire bottom of one door, inside and out, on my '36. they get high marks in my book.
I've used EMS panels with my shoebox and they were just fine.No bad word about their products from me.
patch panels work fine if they are installed correctly.. which most times, people weld too fast and warp the panels then compensate with extra body filler
When I search on 1947 Ford stuff, I get Henry Ford's death info more than car parts. Search on 1946, 1947, and 1948 year parts, they are the same.
this car has the lower front quarter patch, the rear panel below the trunk, the rearmost part of the trunk floor, and the inner rear part of the rockers. these were all on the car from a previous shop. we also have the transmission cover, and all the body mount pieces to be installed. the owner bought another set of the inner rocker pieces, thinking we could re-do the poorly installed one from before, but we will not be using those at all .
well..^^^^^ up above is the other side, this is what it should look like, minus the dents. this is how the car came to me. I didn't do any of this. the panel below is all wrong. are they all like this?.
Sometimes they do, my model t quarter panels needed a full recurve before they'd fit and the panel under the d-lid was 1/8" too wide, and ive seen some Chinese 65 el camino quarters that were horrible. Also ive played with some model a stuff that ****ed too. All in all I wont buy patch panels myself. Disclaimer.... Ive never tried ems stuff, so i'm unsure of their quality
nice. tell me how this is a good part, stamped correctly and just installed wrong. "cut up a good car for patch panels" ?? we are cutting parts off a car that was cut in half by someone else because the front was wrecked. it is a parts car.
not to be a male organ but, hey 49ratfink its a good part, you probably just installed it wrong......... lol can i have my thread back now ???? again not to be a **** but you stated your point lets move along PLEASE....
