A old guy came into my work and said he had a old car he wanted to sell me. He said he had over heard me one day talking about model a's. I went to his house and he had this. Said he baught it 25 years ago. Has some rust through in places. It came from the coast so that's expected. Has doors for it. He did a piss poor job on the wood in the car. He sprayed primmer on it so I can't see all of it. Motor is locked up. And sat without a hood on it. He told me he wanted 2500 but I think there is to much rust for 2500.
The wood is the big thing with fordors. If it's not done right you will have problems lining up doors etc. I think it is two much and would think $1500 tops for it. The sheet metal doesn't look that bad.
Well, it has some decent looking pieces to build a car with but I'm like flatford39 in that I am seeing a ton of work on the wood to get it right. It sure would make a nice little full fendered family cruiser though. Not counting the body or frame there are way over a thousand bucks worth of pieces that I need for my 31 Victoria on that car when you add up the fenders, hood, radiator shell, headlights and 35 wires along with the axle and bones.
In Florida y'all probably have a lot of rust. We don't get as much around here. This being from the coast is the reason for its shape. If it would have came from here it would be in better shape. That is why 2500 is to much.
This is just for me - I wouldn't pay that much 2500 because its a 4 door and I'd wind up cutting it into oblivion and pieces -making something else out of it anyway. So I'd just as soon start with the pieces I wanted and save me the *** ache of cutting it up. Now that's me and I'd go 1500 tops for that pictured if I really wanted it. If I was forced and my arm twisted to take it at 1500, I'd get it to running stopping roller and sell it. On the other hand some guys like the 4 four door stuff and 2500 for that really isn't that out of line if you want a 4 door. Some guys might want it bad enough to even pay more and with some elbow grease and luck you could trade up on that piece .
A 31 Brigs bodied Town Sedan? 2500 may seem high this year, yet it may well sell for 3500 in two years if kept dry. How many were built? Is it too rare to rod?
Buy it ! $1500 is good money for it. As for the body wood, I believe there are kits available to replace that. I believe the "curved top" door windows are Murray bodies ? Keep us posted,... 4TTRUK
It looks like a sound starter-car. Lots of work needed, but for someone who wants a 'family' size hauler, it's good.
sure wish I lived in a place where that would go for $1500.00. looks like a good car to restore, every Model A does not need to be a fenderless chopnchanneled coupe or roadster as for wood, am I the only one on the HAMB who took woodshop in high school? wood is a very forgiving medium to work with.
No pics of the house. It's a neat house. It's in a town close to me. It use to be a nice little town. But it was run by idiots. And now it's going away. The state is building a loop around the town on the highway. When that's done there will be no reason at all to drive through the town.
Amen to that. It would make a lovely father and son project to restore. A dad could use that to teach his kid all there is to know about restoring cars and end up with a nice cl***ic car to boot. Too many people out there trying to built hotrods who don't even have a basic understanding of early Ford mechanics and end up building death traps and giving the hobby a bad name. Ed
