    I have a non-chopped, 1950 2 door Ford Custom with a 351w and a t5 5-speed. This build will be best described as a rat rod.
I grew up racing motocross and driving slow cars like they were racecars, which wasn't the smartest idea but when you can't throw a football what are you gonna do?... I still ride streetbikes, but with a wife and kid it gets a little scarier everytime. I've always loved motorsports, if you haven't spent an entire night in the garage watching movies that you've seen 1,000 times while working on something pointless, you haven't really lived. I am very good at bodywork but my motor skills are minimal, I can make 'em pretty, but can't make 'em run.
About 10 years ago I completely sold out. Went to college, finished up and got an exciting job in the wonderful world of numbers. I personally couldn't figure out how to be successful in the motorsports industry so that was that.
After 1.5 years of researching and obsessing my car finally showed up on Craigslist a little more than 1 hour away from my home. The 351 and t5 combo almost made me take a half day from work. I waited until that evening and within 24 hours of the vehicle being listed I had a handshake agreement with the owner and flat bedded it home that weekend. The vehicle runs and drives but the brakes are something from the garbage can of hell. I will do everything in my capacity to make this build a driver. My plan is to keep the exterior flat and lower, possibly bag the car. Interior will be very nice, try to stay factory and just bring it back to life. Saturday the 22nd will be my first work on the car party with my father in law and a few friends. That's my intro, hugs-

Welcome from a former north texan.... FYI this place is not rat friendly, hopefully some of the shoebox guys can direct you in the way the build should go. Good Luck on the ride!

Welcome from Waco! As said, we're not really fans of rats around here, but it sounds more like you have a sweet work in progress. Good luck with the build!

Haha, don't let us steer you away just yet! Our definition of rat here is different than a lot of other places. We love to watch a rust bucket come back from the dead; we just don't care for rusty cars built for shock value with bad engineering.

It sounds like you have a cool ride. I hope you'll stick around and get to know the place.

Thanks EngragedHawk, yes rat rod was definitely used loosely on my part. I do disagree with cars built for shock value. That is 100% not what I'm doing, I just want it to be fast and low!

Greetings from west Dallas. Sounds like a pretty decent project no matter what you want to call it.

Hey man, nice start. I'm working on a '55 F250 over by White Rock Lake. Check out North Texas Hambers over on Facebook, good spot to connect with the local guys, keep up with events, etc.

    Welcome aboard!

Thanks to all for the comments and welcoming. I look forward to meeting the DFW community and hopefully cruising around together. I'll have to check out the hambers to see what that's all about as well. Back to work for me!

welcome from Arkansas! and don't let anyone on this site tell you how your car "should" be built, it's your car, build it your way.
