I'm contemplating putting F100 Ford pick-up spindles on a 1930 Ford i beam axle?? Have you heard of anyone having done that?? I'm sure there will be a difference in boss size but I would thing that a bushing could be made?
Won't work correctly without a littlle bending of the axle to get the correct camber....or is it caster? Can't ever remember which is which.
So that would be the same for what I'm wanting to do, 53 F-100 on a 30 A. Good to know now instead of later!!!!
If anyone is interested, was researching this myself and found an article at Nostalgic Sid's http://www.droppedaxles.com/TECH_ARTICLES.html on Chevy and Ford axles w/ F100 brakes. With photos, says it's somewhat straight forward.
The F100 spindles have a different Camber angle AND larger kingpins, so its not an easy swap. You need axle bending, and machine work from someone who knows what they are doing to get past the pin size differences. 48-52 F1 spindle is a straight swap with the same size kingpin and (usually) the same king pin angle.
You do not need to use the F-1 or F 100 spindles. With a rear bearing change and possibly some grinding the backing plates the drums fit right on to the 1935 and up spindles which fit on the early axles. Speedway sells a bearing and seal kit. The F-1 parts and F 100 parts should not be mixed but either will fit the spindles. Do a search, should be many posts.
I found this thread in the archives.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-5877.html That thread mentions 53-56 parts.. does anybody know if later F100 stuff is the same? I know a guy with a huge stash of 57-60 F100 parts....
