I have a '38 Standard Tudor that is heading into paint soon and I need to get my wheels and tires ordered. I'm trying to figure out what rear tires to use. I cant find what most people are running, but i see a few 235/70/15 tires used. I'd love to go with a 255/70/15. Is that feasible? I'd love to hear what people have found works the best.

    Other factors...
Stock fenders, CE parallel leafs, 10 bolt from a s10 (as narrow as would fit), I can get whatever backspacing on the rims I need.
I'm running a slightly warmed original flathead with a t5.

(Yes, I know how to use search...used it, many times. Used google, google images, etc)

    Thanks in advance!

Tire size is 670-15's and 820-15's . I am really surprise they handle so well. This car always did handle well. Running a rear monoleaf rear.

Just remember: a 75 series is going to get you the height (diameter) without the width of a 70 series so if you have concerns about sidewall to fender clearance-----.

235/75 15 is what I have on my 38 Standard.

Thanks for the input. Looks like the safe way to go is the 235/75/15.

  8. I put 255/70R15 with 15x7's on my '36 with the stock axle and Posie buggy spring. Tires fit, but are real close to the fenders. On sweeping corners they rub due to the axle moving laterally. A narrower axle and/or parallel leafs would help you. So, its possible. I'm debating changing things like shorter shackles or a panhard bar to control the axle better.

No problems with 235/75x15s on the 36 coupe and cabriolet.

It looks like I'd have minimal clearance with the 255. I'm not much into the fender rubbing. Now it's time to get these things ordered. Wish my car was painted and I'd be more excited to spend the cash on the tires.
